In the 1980s, Gaoming, which had just been restructured, was just a large agricultural county.

At that time, Gaoming needed to raise 55 million kilograms of grain to the state every year, an average of 300 kilograms per person according to the population at that time, which was at the forefront of the entire Pearl River Delta region.
After the restoration of the system in 1981, there was no inch of hard-bottomed roads in the county, and it was inconvenient to cross the Xijiang River by ferry.

Hong Kong Esquel Group entered Gaoming Investment and jointly built Gaofeng Knitting Enterprises Co., Ltd. and Rideng Garment Accessories Co., Ltd. with Gaoming Cotton Spinning Factory and other units. After one year of integration, Cangjiang Industrial Park was identified as the 36th National Torch Plan Characteristic Industrial Base. Relying on the park platform, Gaoming actively undertakes the industrial transfer of the first developing areas in the Pearl River Delta and accelerates the rapid economic and social development of Gaoming District. At the same time, Gaoming District has continuously improved the park's supporting facilities and government services, making the Cangjiang Industrial Park quickly become a huge engine for the take-off of Gaoming Industry.
Over the past ten years, a number of leading enterprises with strong momentum and great influence, such as Haitian Flavor Industry, Foshan Lighting, CNPC Gaofu, honda metal, etc., have entered the Cangjiang Industrial Park, supporting the skeleton backbone of Gaoming Industry. Not only that, within the park, many high-quality enterprises are developing in clusters, such as Haitian Flavor Industry has attracted Huaxing Glass, Hewang Plastic, Nanfang Packaging and other enterprises to match it; CNPC Gaofu took the initiative to extend the industrial chain, continuously attracted CNPC Jiahui and Jiangsu Tiannuo to enter Gaoming, etc., and quickly increased the number of Gaoming industries.

From 2006 to 2011, the total investment of Gaoming exceeded 50 billion yuan, and there were more than 100 projects of more than 100 million yuan; the GDP of the whole district increased from 15.9 billion yuan in 2005 to 50.532 billion yuan in 2012, of which Hecheng Street became the first economic strong street with a total industrial output value of more than 100 billion yuan.
At present, Gaoming is moving towards the goal of building a new gateway to the hub of the Bay Area. The accelerated planning and construction of the Pearl River Delta Hub (Guangzhou New) Airport has directly driven the landing of major transportation facilities projects with a scale of more than 100 billion yuan and the gathering of resources of high-end development elements in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, ushering in an unprecedented period of golden strategic opportunities for high-quality development.
Up to now, Gaoming has been selected into the list of the top 100 comprehensive strength areas in the country for 8 times, ranking first in the national county economy, and the ranking has almost risen year after year. This fully shows that Gaoming is a city of hope.
In recent years, Gaoming District has reorganized and started again, with an average annual GDP growth of 5.8% during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, and the average annual growth rate of per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents of 8.14%, which is consistently higher than the economic development growth rate.
