Jimu News reporter learned from the Wuhan Qingshan District Landscaping Team that in order to control the pests and aphids of luan trees, they first released aphids as a natural enemies - heterochromatic ladybirds, and the "insect special attack team" will remove pests for more than 2,600 luan trees in the district.

"Aphids are serious pests, and heterochromatic ladybirds are the natural enemies of aphids." According to the staff of the Landscaping Team of Qingshan District, Wuhan City, they invited experts from the Plant Protection Institute of the Wuhan Academy of Landscape Sciences to release heterochromatic ladybirds to eliminate aphids on luan trees.

On the morning of April 13, on Linjiang Avenue in Qingshan District, Wuhan City, garden experts inspected the insect pests of Luan tree branches and found that some Luan trees had aphids, and after preliminary estimates, there were about 2,000 aphids in a tree, and then, a release box containing more than 20 heterochromatic ladybirds was placed on each Luan tree.

Under the guidance of experts, the gardeners bundled a release box containing only heterochromatic ladybirds to the branches of the luan tree, then opened the lid of the box, and the heterochromatic ladybird quickly climbed out of the box and began to prey on aphids.

Yu Jingya, an engineer at the Institute of Plant Protection of the Wuhan Academy of Landscape Sciences, introduced that the ladybirds released are heterochromatic ladybirds collected from the wild and can prey on aphids in large quantities after repeated comparative tests, and after standardized artificial reproduction, they are used to kill aphids and aphid shell insects on plants. In the early days, it was tested in the park that a heterochromatic ladybug could eat nearly a hundred aphids. This time, in cooperation with the Qingshan District Landscaping Team, the first attempt to use it on the sidewalk tree luan tree will be followed up.

Zhang Dongqiang, deputy captain of the Qingshan District Landscaping Team, introduced that the traditional practice of controlling aphids on Luan trees is to spray pesticides, although the effect is fast, but it has an impact on the environment, so he tried a new method. For example, last winter, they tied grass ropes to the trunks of luan trees in some sections of the road to eliminate the overwintering aphid eggs, and the effect was good. This year, heterochromatic ladybirds are released in the hope of wiping out the aphids on the Luan trees.

There are more than 2,600 luan trees in Qingshan District, and through biological control, luan trees will show the most beautiful landscape effect in autumn.
