According to the Fujian Daily, with the implementation of the "double reduction" policy, many students feel that in the new semester, "less homework, most can be completed in school", and many parents also said that "subject training institutions do not teach on weekends, and children's weekend time is liberated."
How to guide students to make good use of this extra spare time? Relying on the public welfare extracurricular activity center for young students, Zhouning County fully integrates resources, innovates teaching forms, enriches course content, and launches a series of non-disciplinary free training programs to cultivate students' interest in extracurricular learning, so that the after-school life after the "double reduction" is more colorful.
Optimize the curriculum to meet diverse needs
Starting from July 2020, the Zhouning County Youth Student Extracurricular Activity Center will open free training classes such as piano, tai chi, and creative handicrafts for primary and secondary school students in the county, and use weekends and winter and summer vacations to carry out activities. This summer, it has served 360 class hours throughout the year, benefiting more than 600 students.
"After the implementation of the 'double reduction' policy this semester, we have further optimized the curriculum setting, enriched the content, and met the needs of diverse interests." Chen Xi, head of the center, introduced.
Starting from the actual needs of students, the center enriches the supply of "menus", and increases the number of courses from 5 to 12, covering art, music, programming, sports and other aspects, with the goal of improving the comprehensive quality of students, and is committed to creating high-quality courses and highlight courses.
At the same time, according to the actual situation of the service recipients, the center scientifically develops the curriculum system, makes full use of the existing more than 10 functional classrooms, implements small class education, controls between 10 and 16 students in each class, from the primary class, intermediate class to the advanced class, the assessment and incentive measures complement each other, and the learning and training content is progressive. In 2021, the center completed the plan to open 50 off-campus classes, serving more than 1,300 class hours for students.
Integrate resources and strengthen teachers
"This semester, every course in our center is particularly popular, and after the registration is opened, the number of places is sold out in minutes." Chen Xi said that the implementation of the "double reduction" policy allows children to have more time to participate in interest courses, and the good conditions of the center attract most students and parents.
Chen Huibing enrolled her children in an art creative class. "The teachers here are strong, and the course is free!" She was glad she had a quick eye. It is understood that the teacher volunteers of the center's public welfare training class are all backbone teachers carefully selected from the front-line teacher team, with a strong sense of responsibility, high professional level, and rich professional teaching experience.
"We make rational use of school resources and combine them with social resources." Chen Xi said that in order to create high-quality after-school services, the center also actively invites professionals in musical instrument playing and yoga training to participate in enriching the teaching content. Compared with the same period last year, the number of training courses this fall has expanded from 10 to more than 20, and the number of teacher volunteers has increased from 10 to 26.
Improve literacy and grow in happiness
Talking about the happiest thing about the new semester, Yang Chen, a fifth-grade student at Shicheng Central Primary School in Zhouning County, blurted out: "Every Saturday, I go to the extracurricular activity center for young students to attend classes!" ”
Yang Chen participated in the "Cheng Xiaoben" robot programming class. "At the beginning of this semester, I don't have to go to math cram school anymore, and finally I have time to learn something different." He said.
On weekends, the extracurricular activity center for young students has a pleasant atmosphere. In the studio, small "art cells" collide with exquisite paintings; in the music room, the piano is accompanied by crisp children's voices; on the playground, the little athletes chase after me; in the multi-functional classroom, children laugh and applause from time to time...
Parent Liu Qingping said that the child used to have to "drill" into composition, mathematics and other cram schools every weekend, in fact, he was not happy, but now he really likes to come here to learn to draw. In addition, at least here, children are no longer addicted to electronic products, and parents are very relieved.
"Next, we will launch more practical measures to comprehensively help implement the 'double reduction' policy, actively use existing venues and facilities, gather the strength of all parties, further improve the level of after-school services, and help escort the all-round growth of young people." Xu Huanming, director of the Zhouning County Education Bureau, said. (Fujian Daily reporter Huang Feng correspondent Zheng Wenmin)
