From the evening of the 8th to the early morning of the 9th local time, many Palestinian protesters still gathered near the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the old city of Jerusalem to hold protests. Israeli police fired explosive bombs and others to disperse the protesters. Clashes have re-emerged between the two sides.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said the clashes had injured at least 80 people and taken 14 to hospitals. Israeli police said at least one police officer was injured in the clashes.

According to the Israeli military, on the evening of the 8th, hundreds of Palestinian people gathered in the Palestinian Gaza Strip and the border with Israel to hold protests. The Israeli military also stated that at least one rocket had been fired at Israel by Gaza militants.

In 1967, Israel occupied East Jerusalem in the Third Middle East War and unilaterally declared the whole of Jerusalem the "capital" of Israel. Palestine calls for the establishment of a Palestinian State with East Jerusalem as its capital. The international community generally does not recognize Israel's sovereignty over the whole of Jerusalem.

United Nations agencies express their deep concern at the Palestinian-Israeli conflict

Moratinos, high representative of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, issued a statement on the 8th, expressing disappointment and deep concern about the violent clashes between Palestine and Israel in East Jerusalem, and Moratinos called for respect for the current situation of the holy places in the old city of Jerusalem, and wished the injured a speedy recovery. Since 13 April this year, clashes between the Palestinians and Israelis have continued and tensions have intensified as Israel has restricted Palestinian access to parts of Jerusalem and attempted to drive some Palestinians out of their homes.
