Gu Kaizhi (348-409), Eastern Jin Dynasty (around roman period), Jinling Wuxi (present-day Wuxi, Jiangsu Province). Gu Kaizhi is erudite and talented, good at poetry, calligraphy and painting, and is known as "one of the originators of ink painting" and "three absolutes" (talent, painting, and obsession), and he is jointly known as the "Six Dynasties and Four Greats" together with Cao Buxing, Lu Tanwei and Zhang Shengxuan. His works are intended to convey the gods, and his arguments such as "moving the imagination is wonderful" and "writing about the gods in shapes" have laid the foundation for the development of traditional Chinese painting. His representative works include "Roselle Futu", "Female Shi Zhentu", "Chopping Qintu" and so on.
Part of the Female History Proverbs
1. This is a work created by Gu Kaizhi based on the "Female History Proverbs" written by the Jin Dynasty scholar Zhang Hua, and it should also be the earliest known silk painting, which has important historical value in the history of Chinese art. Female shi is a female official in the palace, "zhen" is admonition, and "female shi zhen" is the meaning of the female official in the palace advising how to guard the virtue of the harem.

This is a typical didactic painting, in this period and before the period, the women who appeared in the painting were mainly used to teach women to have female morality, keep women's morality, etc., and was used to educate and regulate women's behavior, and did not elevate women to an aesthetic height.
3. Zhang Hua's "Female Shi Zhen" tells the story of twelve female virtues, and the extant "Female Shi Zhen Tu" Tang facsimile only survives nine stories due to its age. They are: Feng Yuan blocking the bear, Ban Ji ci ren, samurai shooting pheasant, knowing and decorating its nature, good words out of it, spirit without image, joy can not be desecrated, quiet self-contemplation, female Shi Shi Zhen.

For example, "Feng Yuan Stops the Bear" says that when the Han Yuan Emperor was watching the bear sent by the envoy, the bear suddenly broke free from the cage, and when feng Yuan was in danger, in order to protect the Han Yuan Emperor, feng Yuan rushed forward without the slightest hesitation to block the bear. Educate the harem to have the spirit of dedication to the emperor. At the same time, Gu Kaizhi used two flying streamers to show Feng Yuan's forward movement very well.
