On April 28, local time, U.S. federal prosecutors searched the residence and office of former New York Mayor and Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani and seized Giuliani's electronic devices to advance the investigation into Giuliani's private and illegal contacts with Ukraine.

Giuliani's son, Andrew Giuliani, said on the same day that the raid by federal prosecutors was "disgusting."

Under U.S. law, prosecutors can obtain a search warrant only if they can convince a judge that a search has the potential to produce evidence of a crime. During the Trump administration, Justice Department officials repeatedly tried to prevent the U.S. Attorney's Office from applying for a search warrant for Giuliani's cell phone.
