According to Xinhua News Agency, Yuan Longping, the recipient of the "Order of the Republic", an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the director of the National Hybrid Rice Engineering and Technology Research Center, and the former vice chairman of the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, died in Changsha at the age of 91 at 13:07 on May 22, 2021 due to multiple organ failure. Yuan Longping is the pioneer of china's research and development of hybrid rice, and the first scientist in the world to successfully use the advantages of rice hybrids, known as the "father of hybrid rice". On September 29, 2019, on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China, Yuan Longping was awarded the "Order of the Republic" by 8 people.
