Ban Ki-moon first expressed his heartfelt congratulations on the 50th anniversary of China's restoration of its legitimate seat in the United Nations. "After the People's Republic of China regained its legitimate seat in the United Nations, the United Nations became a world organization in terms of scale and composition." Ban Ki-moon said. "In the past 50 years, China has not only made outstanding achievements in promoting its own political and economic development, but also made great contributions to world development and peace, for which I am deeply grateful."

He pointed out that China's leap from a poor country to the world's second largest economy has successfully lifted a large number of people out of poverty, and has made significant contributions and played a key role in the successful implementation of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and Sustainable Development Goals. "When Chinese President Xi Jinping visited UN Headquarters in 2015, he expressed his firm support for the formulation of the Sustainable Development Goals, which has become a huge impetus for the United Nations to promote the Sustainable Development Goals."

Ban Ki-moon believes that one of the most important contributions China has made to the cause of the United Nations is to show a strong determination to deal with climate change. He said that China has set an example for countries in the negotiation process of the Paris Agreement and the deposit of instruments of ratification of the Paris Agreement, and has also committed to strive for carbon neutrality by 2060, sending an encouraging signal to the world.

At present, the world is in a major change situation unprecedented in a century, the new crown epidemic has brought a huge impact on human society, and the world is facing global challenges such as climate change and economic recession. In Ban Ki-moon's view, the best way to respond is multilateral cooperation, and one of the most prominent problems in the international situation in recent years is the weakening of multilateralism.

He pointed out that today's global technology, communications, transportation and other aspects of the continuous transformation of the development, in many areas beyond the border of cooperation is crucial. "We belong to the same human society, share the same planet and share the same future, multilateral cooperation is not something that any country can do alone, it requires collective will and wisdom, as well as a sense of common purpose represented by the United Nations."

Ban Ki-moon said that from this point of view, the concept of promoting the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind put forward by the Chinese leader is very noteworthy. "We need to work continuously for common peace and prosperity."

Ban Ki-moon said that China is helping other developing countries through the Belt and Road Initiative and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank to be a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, a defender of international order, and a provider of public goods, which is consistent with the ideals carried by the UN Charter. "I hope that China will continue to maintain close cooperation with the United Nations in the future to jointly build a better, safer and more prosperous world."
