During my tenure as Secretary-General of the United Nations, I worked closely with the IOC. We believe that peace can be promoted through sport and development can be promoted through sport. The United Nations has even designated 6 April as the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, so sport is very important. Since I became Secretary-General of the United Nations, I have been participating in every Olympic Games as much as possible. During the 2008 Beijing Olympics, I visited various venues. I feel very confident that China has made efforts to achieve peace, harmony, friendship and mutual respect, and China will definitely make the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics a great success! I hope that by then, more people will be able to travel freely, without fear of covid-19, and that I myself, as Chairman of the IOC Ethics Committee, will definitely participate in and enjoy the Winter Olympics. Beijing can be very proud because it has successfully hosted the Summer Olympic Games, and 14 years later, it will host the Winter Olympic Games again, which is China's contribution to the peace, prosperity, development and harmony of the people of the world.
