He was Lin Biao's cousin and the first political commissar of the 129th Division, and after his death Chairman Mao carried a coffin for him

In the history of my party, there is a famous pair of partners- Liu Bocheng and Deng Xiaoping, who established a military-government cooperative relationship from the 129th Division of the Eighth Route Army in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and cooperated intimately until the end of the Liberation War. However, in fact, the first political commissar of the 129th Division was not Deng Xiaoping, but Zhang Hao.

Zhang Hao, a cousin of Lin Biao, also made great contributions to the revolution and received a special honor after his death: Chairman Mao carried a coffin for people the only time.

If he hadn't died of illness so early, it is very likely that he would have been awarded the rank of marshal in 1955, when the two brothers of the Lin family were both founding marshals, how prominent!

Is it strange to see the name in front, how can the surname Zhang be the cousin of the surname Lin? In fact, Zhang Hao's original name was Lin Yuying, Lin Biao was also called Lin Yurong, and the two were the same great-grandfather. They also have a cousin named Lin Yunan, who was also an early leader of the party.

Among the three brothers, Lin Yunan first embarked on the revolutionary road, it was Lin Yunan who influenced Lin Yuying, and then the two brothers influenced Lin Biao. (In order to avoid confusion, this article uniformly uses the official title for them, and Zhang Hao is Lin Yuying, lin Biao is Lin Yurong)

Zhang Hao was born in 1897 and joined the Party in 1922. At that time, the CCP's energy was mainly used to launch the workers' movement, and Zhang Hao was also the backbone of the labor movement, participating in the organization of general strikes in Shanghai and Changsha, and winning the rights and interests of the broad masses of workers.

In May 1924, he went to Moscow to study, and when he returned to China in July of the following year, he participated in leading the workers' movement in Shanghai, but at a gathering of 10,000 people, his head was stabbed by the bayonet of the military police and hit by the butt of a gun, leaving a serious sequelae.

After the defeat of the Great Revolution, Shanghai was shrouded in a white terror, zhang hao was sent by the central government to the northeast to form the Manchurian provincial party committee, but unfortunately the provisional provincial party committee was betrayed by traitors soon after the establishment of the provisional provincial party committee, and Zhang Hao was imprisoned in a Japanese prison for half a year and suffered serious physical trauma.

In January 1933, Lin Yuying was sent to Moscow by the organization to serve as the representative of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China to the Comintern. On July 25, 1935, Lin Yuying attended the Seventh Congress of the Communist International.

At the meeting, Zhang Hao was asked to return to China to convey the spirit of the Seventh Congress of the Communist International, but at that time the Red Army was in a difficult Long March, the radio was either damaged or abandoned on the way, and the Red Army and the Soviet Union had broken off contact, so Zhang Hao had to send the radio and the code back to China.

After receiving the task, he considered that his previous names were more conspicuous, so he changed his name to "Zhang Hao", he memorized the password in his mind, disguised himself as a businessman, crossed the desert Gobi, and entered from Outer Mongolia through hardships. When he arrived in China, he was briefly detained by the Kuomintang, but because there was no evidence, he was finally released.

Eventually, Zhang Hao arrived at Wayao Fort in northern Shaanxi, the seat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and restored the red army's contact with the Soviet Union. After conveying the instructions of the Comintern, Zhang Hao solved a big problem for the Red Army.

At that time, Zhang Guotao was strong and strong, and he did an extremely wrong thing in Zhuo Mudi, Lifan County, Sichuan, and the party was once in danger of splitting, but Zhang Guotao was a man who listened to the Words of the Communist International, so Zhang Hao, who had just returned from the Soviet Union, was most suitable to communicate as a representative of the Communist International.

Zhang Hao soon called Zhang Guotao, saying that he had been sent by the Comintern to solve the problem of the Red I and IV Fronts, and that he had now regained contact with the Comintern, which agreed with the decision of the Red Army.

After Zhang Guotao learned that the Comintern did not support him, if he was struck by lightning, and the troops were frustrated in Sichuan, he could only lead his troops north, and finally the three main forces of Red One, Red Two, and Red Four successfully met the division.

Later, Zhang Hao also held important positions in the army, and in February 1937, the tragic Western Route Army suffered heavy losses, and the Central Military Commission dispatched the Red 4th Army, the Red 28th Army, the Red 31st Army, the Red 32nd Army, and a cavalry regiment to form a cavalry regiment to aid the Western Army, with Liu Bocheng as the commander and Zhang Hao as the political commissar.

From this time on, Zhang Hao partnered with Liu Bocheng, and it was only in the spring of 1938 that he was transferred back to Chang'an due to illness, and the political commissar of the 129th Division was succeeded by Deng Xiaoping.

If it is only the position of political commissar of the 129th Division, it cannot be said that Zhang Hao is likely to become a marshal, and the other identity is more convincing.

In August 1937, the Luochuan Conference was held, which determined the tasks and policies of our Party during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, and also elected 11 members of the Central Military Commission, namely: Mao Zedong, Zhu De, Zhou Enlai, Ren Bishi, Peng Dehuai, Lin Biao, Liu Bocheng, Ye Jianying, Zhang Hao, He Long, and Xu Xiangqian.

You can think about what the weight of this list is, all those who participate in the award of titles are marshals, of course, this is not to say that he has become a marshal, which of the existing top ten will be excluded. The original list of marshals did not determine the number of people, and if Zhang Hao was alive, he might be the eleventh marshal.

Unfortunately, due to physical reasons, Zhang Hao did not participate in the work later, but even so, he was elected as a member of the Central Committee at the Sixth Plenary Session of the Sixth Central Committee.

On April 30, 1940, Zhang Hao, Chairman Mao, Zhu De and other leaders went to Yan'an Youth Culture Ditch to attend the May Day celebration conference.

After the meeting began, Zhang Hao also took the stage to deliver a celebratory speech. However, after less than 10 minutes of speaking, he suddenly suffered a cerebral hemorrhage, and although Zhang Hao was rescued from the danger of life, he could no longer stand up.

Zhang Hao's health deteriorated, and he finally died on March 6, 1942, at the age of 45. The last words he said before he died were:

The revolution has been the same for 20 years, and we deeply regret that we have not been able to see the victory of the revolution. After I died, I implored the organization to bury me on the Peach Blossom Ridge opposite Yangjialing, so that I could look at the Party Central Committee and Chairman Mao every day!

After his death, Chairman Mao, Zhu De, Ren Bishi, Ye Jianying and other leaders took turns to guard his soul, and when he came out of the funeral, tens of thousands of people in Yan'an sent him off, and Leaders such as Mao Zedong, Zhu De, Ren Bishi, and Yang Shangkun carried coffins for him.

This was the only time that Chairman Mao carried a coffin for a man, and Zhang Hao's tie was also written by Chairman Mao, which read, "Be loyal to the country, and honor even though you die."

Being able to get Chairman Mao to attach so much importance to it and to get so many leaders of the Central Committee to treat him like this shows how much Zhang Hao's contribution to the revolution is! So he really didn't die probably a marshal.

The three lin brothers have made great contributions to the revolution, but it is a pity that Lin Yunan and Zhang Hao died too early, otherwise they may be able to prevent their younger brothers from making mistakes.
