The story of the Buddha's birth, that is, the story of shakyamuni Buddha's previous life.

Bunsen is a paraphrase of the Sanskrit word Jataka. Buddhism believes in reincarnation, and believes that all living things, including human beings, are in the midst of never-ending reincarnation. There are six (or five) paths to reincarnation, namely heaven, man, asura, beast, hungry ghost, and hell. From birth to death, a creature acts either good or evil, and there must be a cause and a result, which determines the good path or bad path of its rebirth in the next life; in the same way, in this life, it is also the result of the good and evil in the previous life, which is the "three-life dual cause and effect theory" proposed by Buddhism. Before becoming a Buddha, Shakyamuni did not jump out of the realm of reincarnation of birth and death, and he had to go through countless reincarnations before he could get out of samsara and become a Buddha. These countless rebirth experiences are the stories of the Buddha's birth.

Most of the Paintings of the Buddha's Bunsen Story in the Kyzyl Caves are painted in a fixed position, that is, on the left and right sides of the celestial chart drawn in the middle of the top of the Buddhist temple. Each Buddha Bunsen story is expressed by a diamond-shaped grid, that is, the most typical plot in the story is selected, with the image of the Buddha's previous life in the story - or characters, or animals as the center, with other necessary characters or animals, backgrounds, props, etc., to form a picture, and then use the diamond grid as a framework to isolate from other paintings.
