Chaotian pepper, also known as small pepper, has a long history of cultivation in Tancheng District.

In recent years, relying on the traditional planting advantages of small peppers, through the introduction of new varieties, the development of order agriculture, the construction of drying and refrigeration facilities, the introduction of large-scale planting support policies and other measures, the city has actively guided the masses to develop pepper planting, formed a small pepper characteristic planting industry, and laid a solid foundation for the effective connection between poverty alleviation and rural revitalization strategies.

Small peppers bring fire for a good day

Lumiao Town is a small pepper growing town in Chencheng District, and 23,000 mu of small peppers have been planted on 70,000 mu of land in the town. Walking into Lumiao Town, the sides of the 008 County Road that passes through the town are covered with small red peppers, in front of the house, inside and outside the yard... There are small pepper stalks everywhere, and villagers are busy picking dried small peppers.

"These little chilli that are drying are called three cherry peppers, which are the main varieties of peppers grown locally." Zhu Chongshan, deputy secretary of the party committee of Lumiao Town, introduced that the ripening period of three cherry peppers is concentrated, and it is suitable for harvesting first and then drying and picking. Mu production of dried peppers 800 pounds, according to the current market price of 8 yuan per catty, mu yield income can reach more than 5,000 yuan.

In 2020, Lumiao Town introduced new varieties of "Baoyin 829" and "Baoyin 849" peppers, and signed an order repurchase contract with Anhui Baoyin Agricultural Company. The villagers of Leizhuang Village came to Hongqi this year to plant two acres of "Baoyin 829" peppers, and have sold two stubbles to earn more than 10,000 yuan, and it is expected to sell for about 10,000 yuan.

"After growing peppers for more than ten years, I have never seen such a high-yield pepper, and the maximum number of peppers on a pepper stalk can produce 4 kilograms of peppers, and the yield is too high." Lai Hongqi said that the high yield has enhanced the confidence in the development of pepper cultivation. He plans to transfer 30 acres of land after the autumn harvest, expand the area of pepper planting, and strive to obtain greater income next year.

Sunji Village, Shuanggou Town, Chencheng District, is a large pepper planting village, the whole village pepper planting area of more than 2,000 acres, mainly high spicy varieties, by Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangdong and other foreign customers welcome. Sun Maoshen, a major pepper grower, said that since July every year, customers who come to Sunji Village to buy peppers are endless, and during the peak period of pepper marketing, the road in the center of the village is full of trucks with foreign license plates.

"The people of the whole country know that Hunan people love to eat spicy, but there are not many local peppers, and most of the peppers are purchased from other places." Xu Jiacai, a customer from Changsha, Hunan Province, said that Sunji Village is one of the pepper producing areas he must visit every year, and the small peppers produced here are spicy and of good quality, and are very popular with the market.

Sun Peng, head of the Green Food Development Service Center of the Agricultural and Rural Bureau of Chencheng District, introduced that the small pepper planting in Chencheng District has a long history, and all townships and towns have planted, and the current planting area is more than 120,000 mu, the main varieties are three cherry peppers, pickled peppers, bright red, etc., and the mu production benefit is more than 5,000 yuan, which is a new way for the masses to increase production and income.

Sanying pepper is the longest grown pepper variety in Tancheng District, and due to the low spiciness of this variety, the proportion of market demand has gradually declined. "Small peppers are an important food condiment. With the increasing use of small peppers, people's tolerance for spiciness is getting higher and higher, and high-spicy varieties are becoming more and more popular in the market. Sun Peng introduced.

Variety is the foundation, technology is the guarantee. Only by pairing good seeds with good methods can we obtain a bumper harvest. Lumiao Town invites agricultural technology experts to each village for pepper management technology training, from seedlings, planting to growth of all aspects of the guidance of growers, to achieve the transformation of traditional pepper planting to high-quality pepper industry, and to promote the transformation of pepper planting in the direction of industrialization and scale.

The Luzhong Farmers' Professional Cooperative in Xumiao Village, Lumiao Town, Chencheng District, planted 320 mu of small peppers this year, accounting for about one-third of the circulating land area. "Without the government-built drying houses, our pepper cultivation scale would not be as large as it is now." Han Liugen, head of the cooperative, introduced that the peppers grown by the cooperative are mainly three cherry peppers, and the three cherry peppers can only sell dry peppers, but the dried peppers that are naturally dried are easy to change color, mold, and are not easy to store, which restricts the scale of development.

In 2020, with 2 million yuan of special poverty alleviation funds, The District built a drying plant, a cold storage preservation warehouse, a cold storage and a storage plant for Xumiao Village, and improved several supporting facilities. "These supporting facilities solve the drying problem in the process of pepper planting, pave the way for the development of the pepper industry, and help the rapid development of the pepper industry." Han Liugen said that the cooperative pays 160,000 yuan in usage rent to Xumiao Village every year, which has strengthened the village's collective economic income and further increased the income of the people who have been lifted out of poverty.

Small peppers break into the Yangtze River Delta

In October 2019, Bozhou officially joined the Yangtze River Delta and proposed to build a production and processing supply base for green agricultural products in the Yangtze River Delta.

The district also includes the large-scale planting of Chaotian pepper into the special assessment content of the rural revitalization industry development, and rewards 5 million yuan, 3 million yuan and 2 million yuan respectively for the townships and towns with more than 20,000 mu (including 20,000 mu) and the top 3 townships with large-scale planting of Chaotian pepper for the development of the Chaotian pepper industry. Villages with an area of more than 5,000 mu of Chaotian pepper are planted on a large scale, and priority is given to drying equipment, cold storage and other projects.

According to the relevant person in charge of the Agricultural and Rural Bureau of Chencheng District, Chencheng District plans to invest 11 million yuan in Lumiao Town to build the "Anhui North Chaotian Pepper Characteristic Agricultural Products Trade Center", with a planned land of 70 mu in the first phase and 500 mu of long-term land, and finally form an influential pepper trading market in the country.

The policy is powerful, and the industry is accelerating. "The planting area of Chaotian pepper in the town has increased from 5,000 to 6,000 mu before 2020 to 23,000 mu now, driving more than 4,000 migrant workers, increasing per capita net income by more than 3,000 yuan, and the total output value has reached 120 million yuan." Dong Heng, secretary of the Party Committee of Lumiao Town, said that the town is actively docking and introducing Chaotian pepper processing and trading enterprises in the Yangtze River Delta region, developing Chaotian pepper deep processing, extending the industrial chain, and providing high-quality green pepper products for the Yangtze River Delta region.
