Romano: Conte made an exception for United because he was "ready" to take the job

Fabrizio Romano reported that Antonio Conte was "ready to take on" a job at Manchester United as he made an exception for the England giants.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been Manchester United manager since late 2018. He hasn't won a trophy yet and they're in poor form in the Premier League.

The Red Devils have not won one of their last four league games. Their last defeat came at the weekend when they were beaten 5-0 by Liverpool at Old Trafford.

According to reports on Tuesday, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still has the support of United's main management.

If United decide to sack Conte, he will reportedly be included in the four-man list to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Honorable journalist Romano revealed via Twitter that Conte was "ready" to accept the manchester United job.

He added that the Italian "never liked" joining a club in the middle of the season. But United are the "only club at the moment" that could change his mind.

Romano said: "Regarding Antonio Conte, I want to be clear. He never liked to join the club in the middle of the season because it wasn't his style – the only club that could change Antonio's mind now was Manchester United.

"There are still no formal talks. It depends on the situation of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - a matter of respect.

He later added: "Antonio Conte's decision is already beyond doubt. He wants a position at Manchester United and he's ready to take it. But based on tonight's situation, there is no formal proposal at this time.

'United are also considering whether to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Still, the Daily Telegraph said United had "distanced themselves" from reports of their contact with Conte.

That's because they've been "scarred" by Jose Mourinho's rule, and they fear the Italian is too similar to their former boss.

Elsewhere, Paul Scholes accused Mason Greenwood of "cheating" in the game against Liverpool:

"Tactically today was bad, really bad. But on the other hand, players must also have some common sense.

"You'd think of the first time Greenwood wanted him to step down, it was almost cheating.

"He knows he can't get the ball, he knows it looks like he's going to approach him, but he knows he's just going to pass the ball and he can't do anything.

"It was almost a cheating way, they rushed over and then he walked a little way back because he thought, 'I've done my part'." But he hadn't done his job yet, he ruined the whole team, all the teams were pulled out of position, [Aaron] Wan-Bissaka had to jump out, [Victor] Lindelof ended up at right-back and then there was all the space in between.

"All of a sudden, Mason wasn't doing his job, the team was attacking, Salah had Keita on the pitch, he could have Alexander Arnold on the pitch, he could get Robertson on the pitch. The way things happen is ridiculous and sometimes players have to use their common sense. ”
