This year marks the 60th anniversary of the teaching of Professor Wang Guotong, a national treasure-level erhu master, and the Shanghai Music Publishing House has published two books for him, "Interpretation of Wang Guotong Erhu Famous Songs" and "Wang Guotong Erhu Art Collection". Having been busy with two books since the beginning of the year, Professor Wang has devoted himself to the revision of these two books during the epidemic, and this book will be released at the end of August.
The author visited Professor Wang Guotong and learned that he had long considered and always wanted to write down his valuable experience and experience in engaging in erhu art all his life and leave it to future generations as a commemoration of the 60th anniversary of his teaching. In the past two years, he has devoted himself to writing day and night, especially since the covid-19 epidemic this year, in addition to giving online lectures to the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts's "Chinese Music Teaching Method", Professor Wang has gone all out to revise these two books day and night until the final draft is finalized and finally meets with readers.
In the "Life Chapter" of the "Wang Guotong Erhu Art Anthology", he told the younger generation how to turn bad things into good things when he encountered setbacks and tribulations in his 60 years of life experience, and how to learn something useful to him from the voices of opposition.
As an outstanding music educator, Professor Wang Guotong wrote his long-term summary of educational ideas, teaching concepts and teaching methods into the book, and he has adhered to the educational idea of "one specialty, multi-functional and all-round development" for decades, not only cultivating many outstanding students for the Central Conservatory of Music and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, but also cultivating his son Wang Yi to become a musician with many achievements. He advocated the teaching concept that "teaching should put the cultivation of students' creative ability and creative consciousness in the first place", which pointed out a forward-looking direction for the teaching of Chinese music. He proposed that the use of different teaching methods at different stages for different students and different situations will enable more teachers to be inspired.
In the book "Wang Guotong Erhu Famous Song Interpretation", in order to facilitate learners to better learn the 18 classic songs in the book, Professor Wang not only marked the performance symbols and requirements of each piece in detail on the score, but also unreservedly dedicated the performance score accumulated over decades to the majority of erhu learners, he also wrote how to play each phrase in each piece, and even the musical feeling of each note into the "deductive talk", and also attached a recording of personal performance, in order to inherit the erhu art with all his heart. It is like the state of mind of an educator, which is respectable and worth learning. In addition, the book also publishes three duets in which he and Wang Yi often perform Liu Tianhua's erhu and the 2018 new edition of the "Huaixiang Song" that has been circulating for nearly 50 years. Therefore, to make the content of this book more abundant, those who study folk music will be able to learn more from it.
