Amazing dad

Since Jia Ling's "Hello, Li Huanying" has become a dark horse at the Box Office during the Spring Festival, family warm films seem to have become a big hit in the theater, and "The Great Dad" released on Father's Day is also one of them.

Set in a single-parent family in Chongqing, the story revolves around a marathon that tells the story of a taxi driver dad and a college student son who is at risk of blindness at any time. The title of the film is easily reminiscent of the Indian film WrestleMania! Daddy" is also a competitive theme, but the focus of "Great Dad" is not "winning the championship" but "participating" - the realization of self-worth is not only about winning the championship medal, but also about self-exploration and father-son communication in the process.

Amazing dad

The son inherited his long-distance running talent and love of marathon from his mother, who died prematurely, but also inherited multiple sclerosis, which would go blind if it recurred. Worried that the high-intensity sports will accelerate his son's blindness, the father spent all his savings on his son's piano education, asked the teacher to teach him to play blindly, and took him to close his eyes and familiarize himself with the roads around his home. Becoming a pianist is a father's expectation for his son, but his son always loves marathons.

In fact, there are many plots in this movie that make me feel a little "ridiculous": the son is completely blind after the recurrence of multiple sclerosis, runs away from home to live in a friend's house, the father pretends to be a nurse who can't speak in order to take care of him, and communicates with his son through the mobile phone voice assistant; the "caregiver" father walks with his son every day, in order to reassure his son, he plays an oboe play alone, and also accompanies his son to "revenge", deflating the tires of his own taxi one by one; in order to complete his son's desire to run a marathon, The middle-aged man with a big belly is determined to run as a companion for his visually impaired son and begins a difficult marathon self-training.

When this son, who is convinced of his choice, becomes blind, gives up running, cannot see his future path, and is passive and tired, it is his father who usually disdains and wants to escape, taking him to recognize the white line direction of the runway and the path of life little by little.

The film is based on a true story, and the son in the film is based on He Yajun, who won the title of "Marathon Person of the Year" in 2018. As a visually impaired person, He Yajun not only ran 70 marathons by himself, but also formed a blind group to lead more blind friends to run. He Yajun once said that blindness made his life possibilities very limited, and it was not until he came into contact with marathons that he found his own world.

At the end of the film, the father and son finally embark on the marathon track, a red rope tied to the hands of the two, they set off together, running together. My father had been training for a long time, but his body still couldn't stand up, and he fell in the middle of the way, disrupting the rhythm of the long-distance running body. In the last few kilometers, the father broke free of the rope that bound the father and son together and stopped.

On the track, the son still wore the rope in his hand, remembered his father's instruction to "run along the white line", used his remaining weak vision to glance at the wide white line on the track, and continued to run to the end. No matter where your parents can accompany you, the road of life, in the end, you will run alone.
