Cross-talk examination: Liu Baorui of the cross-talk family "Jiaojiamen"

Liu Baorui, born in 1915, a native of Beijing, his real name is Liu Mingguang.
Liu Baorui's family is a sedan shop, and the family is still good. Liu Baorui is definitely a super lover of cross-talk, playing small in the various cross-talk fields around Beijing Tianqiao and Dong'an Market, listening to the cross-talk passages of many big celebrities, and also seeing the cross-talk skills of many grandmaster-level figures. Some sources say that Liu Baorui began to contact the art of cross-talk at the age of nine, which is probably the experience of this period.
Liu Baorui especially liked Zhang Shouchen's cross-talk, and also learned from Zhang Shouchen for advice. It was this kind of love that Liu Baorui later entrusted people to Ask Zhang Shouchen and successfully worshiped under Zhang Shouchen. This week, the master brother was grabbed by Chang Baokun, and Liu Baorui could only be the second master brother. Before Liu Baorui visited Zhang Shouchen, he also learned cross-talk with the old artist Chongshoufeng for a period of time.
Liu Baorui studied under Zhang Shouchen, who gave him the stage name Liu Litang. Liu Baorui was the oldest of Zhang Shouchen's many disciples, but he was definitely not Zhang Shouchen's eldest disciple. In Zhang Shouchen's mind, the eldest disciple was Chang Baokun. Indeed, the little mushroom Chang Baokun is a popular cross-talk artist. Liu Baorui was thirteen years old when he visited his teacher, probably in 1928.
The age difference between Liu Baorui and Master is 16 years; probably the oldest among the brothers of the master, Liu Baorui and Zhang Shouchen have a very harmonious relationship between master and apprentice, everything is talked about, there is no restraint between teachers and students, so some people say that Liu Baorui is Zhang Shouchen's "friend disciple". Before liberation, the master and apprentice were like father and son, and the apprentice had to be respectful to the master, and even some masters had to withhold the apprentice and squeeze the apprentice. Such a harmonious master-apprentice relationship as Liu Baorui and Zhang Shouchen is rare under the ancient traditional master-apprentice relationship. Ma Sanli's eldest disciple Yan Xiaoru was a year older than Ma Sanli, and when the two people were older, when they appeared on the stage together, Ma Sanli always supported this disciple Yan Xiaoru. The harmonious relationship between the two masters and apprentices is also rare in the cross-talk circle.
Compared with Chang Baokun, Liu Baorui's qualifications are obviously much worse, in the words of Liu Baorui's apprentice Kou Gengru: "Mr. Liu Baorui is incomplete in five tones, and if you want to talk about learning to sing, 'one shorter'." Because he can't sing, singing everything out of tune. Don't look at him in the cross-talk performance does not sing, but analyze the plot of these singing segments and drama, so that the audience feels that listening to him is more enjoyable than listening to singing. It may be this kind of shortcoming that Liu Baorui is not optimistic about Zhang Shouchen. Fortunately, Liu Baorui's cross-talk performance skills are superb, he can master the changes in the rhythm of sound, and he can also achieve the complete unification of the hand-eye-body method, and master the four words of "chi and urgent setback".
Zhang Shouchen later went to Tianjin, and Liu Baorui followed his master to Tianjin, which was about 1928, and Liu Baorui was fourteen years old. In Tianjin, Liu Baorui's master and apprentice, Ma Sanli, Zhao Peiru, Li Jiechen, and others performed at the Lianxing Tea Society Cross-Talk Conference in Nanshi City, and also broadcast on the radio. Lianxing Tea House is one of the three tea houses with the same name as the Qiming Tea House in Beijing and the Chenguang Tea House in Jinan, but the history of the Lianxing Tea House is longer because ma's cross-talk has a longer history. Beijing's Qiming Tea House and Jinan's Chenguang Tea Society were both established in the 1940s, the Qiming Tea Society was established by Chang Lian'an and belonged to the Chang family, and the Chenguang Tea Society was established by Li Shouzeng and his apprentice Sun Shaolin, and the Sun family operated for a long time.
Liu Baorui stayed in Tianjin for about four years, and from 1932, Liu Baorui and Ma Sanli partnered to run docks in Yingkou, Yantai, Qingdao and other places. It is said that on the steamship to Yantai, the two were penniless and hungry for two days, and finally Ma Sanli stole two burnt cakes, which saved Liu Baorui's life. Of course, this is just a legend, and it should not be true.
After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the situation in the Beijing-Tianjin area took a sharp turn for the worse, and Liu Baorui arrived in Jinan at this time, and did not return to Tianjin until after the Tianjin floods in 1939. However, at this time, Tianjin was still in chaos, and life was not easy. In order to survive, Liu Baorui runs docks in various places uninterruptedly, and the Beijing-Tianjin area is a place where activities are often active, and even runs to Nanjing and Shanghai.
In 1941, Liu Baorui came to Kaifeng, Henan Province, and performed at Xiangguo Temple. At this time, Zhang Jieyao, his apprentice and his family were also in Kaifeng, so they cooperated on the same stage and performed together.
In 1944, Liu Baorui, the year of establishment, asked Master Zhang Shouchen to go to Jinan with him, and this time he went to Jinan not to perform at the Chenguang Tea Society, but to open a new tea house in the opposite of the Chenguang Tea Society, called "Gongle Tea Society".
Peers are wrongdoers, and they are enemies of the door. Gongle Tea Club invited Zhang Shouchen, Yu Shide, Zhang Lisen, Wang Changyou, Gao Guiqing, Lai Shaoru, etc., and launched a ring match with Chenguang Tea Club. This is the famous Jinan confrontation. There is a question worth pondering: the Gongle Tea Society is headed by Zhang Shouchen and Liu Baorui, the Chenguang Tea Society is headed by Li Shouzeng and Sun Shaolin, and Li Shouzeng is Zhang Shouchen's dai la disciple, and the relationship between the two is very good, but why is it that they want to knife to knife, gun to gun? The dispute between them is definitely a matter of interest. The cross-talk circle says that it is big and big, and it is not big or big, they are all acquaintances, so the confrontation is bound to hurt harmony. Yan Xiaoru was also invited, people on both sides were familiar with him, he was sandwiched in the middle, it was not easy to do, after two months of staying, he did not quit and returned to Tianjin.
Liu Baorui stayed in Jinan for about three or four months before returning to Beijing, joining the Qiming Tea House, partnering with Guo Rongqi and teasing each other. In Jinan, Liu Baorui became acquainted with Gao Yuanjun. Gao Yuanjun was the founder of the Shandong Kuaishu Gao School, and it was he who named "Wu Lao'er" Shandong Kuaishu. Gao Yuanjun and Liu Baorui also have a layer of relationship: Gao Yuanjun's master is Chang Lian'an, and Chang Baokun, the grand duke of Changlian'an, is Liu Baorui's brother- and sister- Liu Baorui and Gao Yuanjun formed a teasing partner and went to Nanjing together to talk about cross-talk at the Confucius Temple. The two have similar temperaments and have a pleasant cooperation. Gao Yuanjun gave Liu Baorui a measure of work, and the cooperation was very tacit.
Later, Liu Baorui and Hou Baolin and Ma Ji all hitched a ride. That is to say, Liu Baorui was not a single mouth at first, but said the right thing, with praise and teasing. After becoming everyone, I slowly embarked on the road of stand-up.
In 1949, Liu Baorui and Zhao Yuehua married, the year he was 34 years old, and their new home was settled in Nanjing. This year, forced by life, Liu Baorui came to Hong Kong and brought the art of cross-talk to Hong Kong. It is said that Gao Yuanjun, who performed in Hong Kong with Liu Baorui, was very popular in hong Kong, performing more than a dozen times a day, earning a lot of money and working very hard. It is said that in order to maintain his spirit, Liu Baorui smoked a big cigarette; after Gao Yuanjun knew, he scolded Liu Baorui: "Aren't you destroying yourself?" You are already married to a wife, you don't think for yourself, you have to think about your family! The business here will be resigned immediately, we can't stay any longer with the money we earn, we must quit smoking! walk! Later, Liu Baorui saw Gao Yuanjun and thanked him: "Brother, you should have scolded me earlier!" "Before liberation, many artists smoked a lot, such as Li Dezhuo, Ma Guiyuan and so on. Unfortunately, smoking a lot of cigarettes is refreshing, but it also harms the body and wastes money. Ma Guiyuan died at the age of 29.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Liu Baorui first returned to Shanghai. In 1952, the Central Radio Rap Company invited Zhang Shouchen to join, but Zhang Shouchen declined and recommended his second disciple Liu Baorui to replace him. It was Zhang Shouchen's recommendation that Allowed Liu Baorui to join the China Broadcasting Rap Ensemble and settle in Beijing. Later, Liu Baorui frequently traveled to and from Beijing and Tianjin, and systematically learned stand-up comedy from Zhang Shouchen. Later in Zhang Shouchen's artistic career, he changed his name to stand-up and commentary. Zhang Shouchen's stand-up is also very good, and it is the best stand-up after Li Dezhuo, who is a fan of thousands of people. It is recorded in the "Jianghu Series Of Talks": "Shan Chun is difficult to say, it is really not easy for a person's cross-talk to amuse people." It is said that Shan Chun became famous by the late Wanren fans, and now it is Zhang Shouchen. "Liu Baorui, Hou Baolin, Guo Qiru, and Guo Quanbao are known as the four elders of Zhongguang.
Liu Baorui is known as the "stand-up king" of the cross-talk circle, and his master Zhang Shouchen is the "joke king"; to tell the truth, Liu Baorui's stand-up is not necessarily superb compared with Li Dezhao and Zhang Shouchen, but Li Dezhao and Zhang Shouchen are also very good compared to each other and stand-up, and Liu Baorui's counterpart and stand-up ratio are not very good. Liu Baorui's stand-up is very distinctive, drawing on the one-man show, commentary, Shandong fast book performance techniques, and also learning from movies and dramas, integrating the strengths of various factions to form its own style: the typhoon is steady and elegant, and the tone of the mouth is delicate. How good is Liu Baorui's stand-up? His apprentice Kou Gengru said, "Stunned is to turn a false statement into a truth."
Even if Liu Baorui became famous, as long as master summoned, he still had to rush to the master's body immediately. It is said that one afternoon, Zhang Shouchen heard Liu Baorui's stand-up comedy "Three Dangers in the Day" from the radio that day. At first, Zhang Shouchen was still very happy to listen, but his face changed when he listened to it, so that he turned off the radio before he finished broadcasting. When Bai Fengming, the head of the China Broadcasting Rap Troupe, visited him in Tianjin, Zhang Shouchen said to Bai Fengming with unabated anger: "We all know that Bao Rui is my apprentice, and my "Three Sexes" (that is, "Three Dangers in the Day") is so made! If you go back to Beijing and give Bao Rui a letter and let him have time to come, you will say that I am angry. Within three days, Liu Baorui came to Tianjin with great wind and fire, and after summoning Master through the door, he explained: "The letter carried by the third uncle (Bai Fengming), I knew it yesterday. The last time the radio recorded "Three Dangers in the Day", after recording, I felt that this piece of work did not work well, told them not to put it, they did not listen or let it go, you don't get angry, I went back to re-record it. ”
When Zhang Shouchen saw Bao Rui coming, his anger also subsided, and he said: "Got it, eat first, and after eating, I will tell you from beginning to end." ”
When Liu Baorui died in the cowshed during the Cultural Revolution, Zhang Shouchen learned of Liu Baorui's death and looked at the wall in shock, looking dejected... The favorite apprentice Chang Baokun left before him, the second apprentice Liu Baorui also left before him, and the white-haired man sent the black-haired person, no matter what, it made people sad and sad.
But the specific cause of Liu Baorui's death has always been the biggest mystery in the cross-talk circle.
The year liu Baorui died was 1968, when Liu Baorui was 53 years old. After his death, Liu Baorui was hastily buried, and has been searching for fruitlessly, leaving only his clothes and crown buried in the Chaoyang Cemetery in Beijing.
Liu Baorui, Ma Sanli, and Zhao Peiru's "Horse Jacket" is the most widely circulated version.
Liu Baorui gave birth to Liu Yaya, Liu Yaya's son Hou Guan boy in 1982, is also a cross-talk actor.
Liu Baorui received thirteen disciples, including Zhou Wenyou (Zhou Deli), Kou Gengru (Kou Wenru), Xing Wenzhao (Xing Kezhao), Huo Wenlong (Huo Yulong), Yin Wenshuo (Yin Hao), Wang Wenlin (Wang Huilin), Gao Hongshun, Tang Jiezhong, Zhang Tingxuan, Cao Zhongmin, Liu Bing (Liu Binglong), Pi Shude, and Han Dejiang.
