Lu Xun was once the section chief of the Ministry of Education, and he was quite at odds with his boss, Fu Zengxiang, who had been the minister of education, Fu Zengxiang was a famous educator and bibliophile, and Lu Xun once wanted to sell the collection to him, and he opened an outrageous low price, which made Lu Xun extremely dissatisfied. Lu Xun believed that Fu Zengxiang had a bad track record of "stealing books.". One was a story told to his brother Zhou, and the other was a work memoir written by himself.
The story that Lu Xun told to Zhou Zuoren, Huang Pei especially relayed this story in the article "The Affair of the Tibetan Garden". It turned out that in September 1957, Zhou Zuoren (signed "ShiTang") published a "Story of Stealing Books" in the "Xinmin Bao Evening Magazine", recording the stories he heard from Lu Xun. Like Lu Xun, there is no naming, only "a celebrity who has been the chief of the list and a very famous bibliophile", but the reader will understand who the protagonist who has not been named is.
The reason for the story is that a celebrity heard that the Beijing Normal Library contained a Songban book, and there was no case of borrowing, but only a special clean room by the library, and asked this celebrity to live, and he could read it carefully. Lu Xun, as the section chief, took out Song Ban and delivered it by hand. A few days later, the celebrity said that he would come back to the school and invite someone to go and receive Song Ben, which was naturally still handled by Lu Xun himself. The jaw-dropping "book theft" scene record that occurred since then, Zhou Zuoren relayed the following:
"On this day, the section chief was still out of the horse, and when he saw that he was ready to go, he only waited for the section chief to arrive and returned the book, so he picked up the net basket and covered it, and left the museum. The section chief took the Nanmu box containing the Songban book with both hands, and handed it over to the workers, when suddenly 'blessed to the heart', opened the box in front of his face to take a look, did not look at everything, only to see that the Nanmu box was 'empty', and there was not a single book. The first to see the flaw was the celebrity, who immediately turned back and scolded the employer standing behind, 'Asshole stuff, how the book is not put away!' The user quickly took out the SongBan book from the net basket and put it into the Nanmu heap. The section chief took it and accepted it with peace of mind. ”
Zhou Zuoren then said in a cool tone, "Later, When Lu Xun told this story, he always said that he thought back to the dangers he encountered in the past, and this time he was the most dangerous and the most lucky, because as long as he was not careful, after accepting it, the responsibility for losing the book could no longer be shaken off." For this reason, he also hated the celebrity the most. Not only is it believed that the bibliophile is a book stealer, but also because the individual is almost fooled by him. In the end, Lu Xun came to a conclusion for the bibliophile celebrity, saying, "When a bibliophile sees a good book, he tries his best to plot, and it is also human feelings, but he can never violate morality and do something unseemly." ”
In this attempted theft case, Lu Xun spoke eloquently, Zhou Zuoren wrote vividly, and Huang Bao's paraphrasing was also logical, and those who knew Fu's life in later generations were all like wooden chickens.
In fact, lu xun also told one story about Fu Zengxiang stealing books, and it was more direct and spicy, although it was still not clearly named. Thinking about this story, Zhou Zuoren has also seen it and will be more impressed.
In the article "On the So-Called "Great Inner Archives"" published in the seventh issue of the fourth volume of the "Yusi" weekly magazine on January 28, 1928, Lu Xun, when referring to the sorting out of the internal files left by the Qing government, specifically pointed out the self-theft of the education chief, vice president, and counselor of the Beiyang government on the Qing Dynasty's relics, and he wrote:
This time it was Mr. F who came to be the Chief of Education, a celebrity of book collection and "archaeology". I think he must have heard some rumors, thinking that there must be a good Song edition book in the sack - "the only book in the sea". At this time, Vice President Y, who was well known for his investigation of European and American education, and Counselor C, who was famous for speaking big, suddenly became archaeologists. They and Chief F are both "thinking of the present", inseparable from the dust and next to the broken paper. Whenever we picked it up on the table, they always took it in and said it was to see it. When it comes time to return it, it is often a little less than the original, and God is on it, which is true.
It is said that the personal name of the English code mentioned in the text is an old-fashioned pinyin abbreviation of the surname. Mr. F refers to Fu Zengxiang, who was the chief of education of the Beiyang government from December 1917 to May 1919. Y sub-long refers to Yuan Xitao, the word Guanlan, Jiangsu Baoshan people. He was the president of the Jiangsu Provincial Education Association, and from 1915 to 1919, he served twice as vice minister of education of the Beiyang government. Counselor C refers to Jiang Weiqiao, Zizhuzhuang, Jiangsu Wujinren. From 1912 to 1917, he served as a counselor of the Ministry of Education of the Beiyang Government three times.
Lu Xun's "group book theft case", headed by Fu Shi, almost the entire department participated, which was unexpected. Of course, only a small section chief like him did not participate, he could clean himself up and be good, and naturally he was qualified to speak, write, and ridicule. Source: China News Network
