Water spirit - little partridge

author:Lee Shin Tak

The alias of the little partridge is oil duck, water hyacinth, oil gourd, wang eight duck. Its vigilance is very high, the courage is very small, as long as you see people a little closer to it, a fierce man stuck in the water will disappear, when shooting it can only stand far away, if the telephoto lens is really not GOOD.

The little partridge (scientific name: Tachybaptus ruficollis) is a diving bird. Body length 25-29 cm, wingspan 40-45 cm, weight 100-200 g, lifespan 13 years. The occipital part has a black-brown crown; the adult has a black-brown hetero-brown wrinkled collar on the upper neck; the upper body is black-brown and the lower body is white.

Good at swimming and diving, often diving for food, feeding on aquatic insects and their larvae, fish, shrimp, etc. Usually alone or in small, scattered groups. When breeding, they chase each other on the water and make a sound, and have the habit of occupying a certain territory. During the breeding period, it nests in swamps, ponds, lakes and other places such as reeds, rushes, cattails, etc., and lays 4-7 eggs per clutch, with a blunt and round ovate shape, dirty white, and males and females take turns to incubate eggs. Resident birds and some migratory birds.
