The first "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" was composed by Tan Dun and won the Oscar for Best Film Score. Under the leadership of Hong Yiquan, the orchestra renders the restrained and subtle atmosphere in the film to the extreme with accurate interpretation. The big jumping melody of the cello jumping up intertwines the happiness and vengeance of the oriental rivers and lakes, showing the chivalrous tenderness of thousands of turns and swinging intestines. The symphonic suite "Jinling Thirteen Chao", originally created by Chen Qigang and commissioned by the National Centre for the Performing Arts Orchestra, chen Xinruo, vividly expresses the kindness and compassion of human nature in the collision and fusion of various musical styles. In "Jade Guanyin" composed by Ye Xiaogang, the performers portrayed the characters with different personalities with sincere and deep emotions, and the touching melody also told the audience about the love, hate and growth of the protagonist. In addition, "Qiao Family Courtyard", composed by Zhao Jiping and with strong local characteristics of Shanxi, jinhu, erzhu strings and other instruments with local characteristics were intertwined with the symphony orchestra, so that the audience could appreciate the zhengzheng style and bones of Jinshang and feel the national spirit of endless life and unity.

Six "national tide" music feasts

Vividly interpret the charm of "national tide"

In "Soundtrack Legends", the 2021 National Centre for the Performing Arts Walk Classic Series of Concerts came to a successful conclusion. With the theme of "Enjoying the National Tide", conductors Zhang Yi, Li Biao, Hong Yiquan, the Symphony Orchestra of the Central Ballet, the Beijing Symphony Orchestra, the Sichuan Symphony Orchestra, the National Centre for the Performing Arts Orchestra and the Erhu player Jiang Jianhua successively appeared on the stage of the National Centre for the Performing Arts, presenting six "National Tide" music feasts full of traditional Chinese culture and classic feelings for the audience.

In this year's "Walking Classics", there are many works derived from Chinese culture and history. Traditional Chinese fables and mythological allusions such as "Yugong Moving Mountains", "Nuwa Patching Heaven" and "Jingwei Reclamation" are transformed into musical notes, leading the audience to relive the childhood pillow story in music. Cellist Zhu Yibing performed Zhao Jiping's cello concerto "Zhuang Zhou Meng", which was a clever "translation" of Zhuangzi's philosophical thoughts, and exquisitely interpreted the realm of "Zhou is a butterfly, a butterfly is a week" for the audience. Tang Jianping's symphonic suite "The Forbidden City" seems to have moved the Forbidden City bathed in the morning light, the red wall and the golden glow of the roof to the concert hall, which has a profound cultural connotation and historical charm.

Symphonic works created based on folk songs, operas and even local customs are full of national customs and regional colors. The famous pipa player Zhao Cong's song "Fuji Tianchang" combines elements such as Korean style music and Northeast folk songs, showing the humorous and joyful nature of the northern people. The Sichuan Symphony Orchestra has a salty "Hot Pot Symphony", and the performers use a variety of instruments such as woodwind, brass, strings, percussion and other instruments to imitate the common ingredients in the hot pot such as hairy belly, yellow throat, waist flower, beef and mutton, etc., and bring the audience the delicious and warm feelings when enjoying the hot pot with a very creative dynamic rhythm and rich colors.

The collision and fusion of music has also become another highlight of this year's walking classic. The erhu in the hands of the famous erhu player Jiang Jianhua can be described as the "confluence" of eastern and western musical cultures. Jiang Jianhua not only has a heritage of erhu performance, but also does not stick to the inherent performance form of erhu, boldly integrating erhu with Japanese music elements and Western music elements, interpreting the "national tide" music in his own eyes. In particular, the Japanese melodies such as "A Drop of the Great River" and "Children of the Earth" composed by Gakurong, which were co-interpreted with the Music Ear Quartet, moved many audiences at the scene. The collision between the string quartet and Yue opera also takes the audience to experience the unique charm of opera art in the national tide of opera that inherits the national culture.
