The old man is an outstanding Communist Party member in Hunan Province, the most beautiful veteran, and a good man in China.
Gan Houmei was a child of a liuyang farmer, born in May 1927, and lived a life of not having enough to eat and wear when he was young. One day in February 1947, he was arrested. Fortunately, this unit soon revolted in Gucheng, Hubei Province, and then he was incorporated into the 163rd Regiment of the 4th Column Independent 12th Brigade of the Eighth Route Army. At the end of June 1948, Gan Houmei's unit participated in the battle of Niuheling Ridge in ankang City, Shaanxi Province, which was fought very hard, fighting for many consecutive days, and the positions changed hands repeatedly. In a hand-to-hand combat, Gan Houmei stabbed an enemy with one shot, and just as he was about to pull out his bayonet, Ming's dangling bayonet came from the right side, and his right hand was blocked, a sharp pain, and his arm was almost pierced. Before he could stand still, another one rushed from the opposite side, Andeome was on one side, his abdomen was hot, and he was stabbed. Gan Houmei held the determination to die, put his hands around a guy with a big waist and round waist, and struggled to roll down the hillside of more than 20 meters, unconscious.
"I really thought I was dead, hehe, picked up a life." The old man seemed very happy. The comrades-in-arms were dying when they found Out. "I didn't know the battle was over and we had a win. I said I was a machine gunner, my fingers could still move, I could fight! ”
The instructor immediately summoned the members of the party branch in the company and held a temporary branch meeting in the trenches, at which it was announced that Comrade Gan Houmei had turned his line of fire and became a formal communist.
In this battle, Gan Houmei was credited with special merit for combat bravery, which was equivalent to a first-class merit. The medal was later reissued.
"The day I joined the Party was July 3, 1948." More than seventy years later, this day, the old man remembers very clearly.
He had just had an illness and was a little weak. I sat down and listened to the old man's intermittent narration.
After Gan Houmei took part in the Huaihai Campaign, he went with the army to Hubei, Anhui, Shaanxi, Sichuan, and other provinces and cities, and in more than a year, experienced more than 20 large and small battles, each of which was a charge forward, with outstanding performance, and successively made a second-class meritorious service once and a third-class meritorious service 5 times, and was successively awarded the Huaihai Campaign Commemorative Medal, the Victory Medal for the Liberation of Southwest China, the Liberation of Central And Southern China Medal, and many other medals.
Behind the medals, there are numerous scars. Gan Houmei suffered many injuries to his waist, abdomen, hands and feet, and because he did not get timely treatment, he was left with serious sequelae, especially the injuries on his waist and abdomen, which tormented him every day. During the conversation, the old man had to straighten up and rub it for a while, and smiled and said: "Decades, get used to it." ”
"I was a teacher in the second middle school." The old man said.
"You were a teacher?" How did you become a coal miner? ”
"In July 1956, I was sent to lanzhou accelerated middle school of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and in 1958 I transferred back to Liuyang No. 2 Middle School. At that time, middle school was even more cultured. Alas, I returned home because of a waist injury. The old man pointed to his waist: "At that time, I couldn't sleep at night." ”
Between 1959 and 1961, due to the recurrence of injuries, Gan Houmei went to Changsha for medical treatment many times, sharing more than 1,700 yuan in medical expenses, almost half of his transfer expenses.
"In fact, his medical expenses can be reimbursed, he just doesn't go." The old man's eldest son said from the sidelines.
"Don't say it, the country really cares about me, we're doing well." The old man stopped his son.
In March 1971, after organizational arrangement, Gan Houmei became a worker in the Wenjia Coal Mine. Every day, he went down the well to measure the gas concentration, check the coal truck, tighten the loose screws on the track, and did it for more than a decade. In 1982, Gan Houmei retired as an ordinary worker in the Wenjia Coal Mine.
In 2000, Gan Houmei was identified as a retired old worker by the Changsha Municipal Labor Bureau.
Someone told him that he could get a lot of financial compensation in this situation, but he resolutely refused: "Don't lie in the book of merit and reach out to the country."
The elderly are enthusiastic about public welfare undertakings, and have long donated money from their meager salaries to schools, hospitals and disaster areas, ranging from as little as 3500 to as many as 1,200, and rough statistics, there are more than 130,000 yuan. The most recent donation was in May 2020, when he donated 3,000 yuan to help Wuhan fight the epidemic, which is almost a month's pension for him.
But the family has not been touched by a little light. After he transferred from the army, his wife lost her job and had to go to the fireworks factory to subsidize the family. Thinking of his deceased wife, the old man felt very guilty.
In the small red cloth bag, I saw several yellowed pieces of old paper, which were autobiographies written by Gan Houmei, and two sentences were written like this:
