Mrs. Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China, and Peng Liyuan, UNESCO's Special Envoy for girls' and women's education, were invited to deliver a video message to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Women's Education and Poverty Reduction Forum on the 20th.

Peng Liyuan said that eliminating poverty and embracing happiness are the common ideals of the majority of women. By receiving education and acquiring knowledge and skills, women have the power to lift themselves out of poverty. Through unremitting efforts, China has won a comprehensive victory in poverty alleviation, and hundreds of millions of chinese women have completely escaped poverty. Through a series of measures, we have guaranteed women's fair enjoyment of their right to education, so that they can become beneficiaries, participants and contributors to poverty alleviation. With the great attention of the state, the active support of social organizations, and the selfless dedication of people from all walks of life, the cause of women's education and poverty reduction has a source of motivation. The local government of Guizhou Province implemented the "Splendid Embroidery Plan" for women's characteristic handicraft industries, driving more than 500,000 women to achieve home employment. With the help of the "Spring Bud Project", more than 3 million poor girls have been able to complete their studies and continue to transmit the power of love with a grateful heart when they grow up. Zhang Guimei has been rooted in poor mountainous areas for more than 40 years, founded an all-free girls' high school, and devoted herself to helping nearly 2,000 girls realize their college dreams. Such stories happen every day on the land of China.

Peng Liyuan said that at present, 435 million women around the world still live in poverty, the gender gap in education is still obvious, and the new crown pneumonia epidemic has made women face new challenges to poverty reduction.

Peng Liyuan said that since the establishment of the SCO 20 years ago, sisters in various countries have adhered to the "Shanghai Spirit", exchanged experience in women's development, promoted cooperation in various fields, and contributed to promoting cooperation in the SCO. We must unite our love and work hard for a long time, continue to deepen cooperation in women's education and poverty reduction, let the light of education illuminate women's road of hope, and let more women enjoy the opportunity to shine in life.
