Beijing, June 7 (Xinhua) -- On June 7, Peng Liyuan, wife of President Xi Jinping and goodwill ambassador of the World Health Organization for tuberculosis and AIDS prevention and control, was invited to deliver a speech at the opening ceremony of the World Health Organization's video conference on "Ending AIDS Deaths due to Tuberculosis: Increasing Momentum".

Peng Liyuan said that in recent years, with the joint efforts of the international community, the global AIDS and tuberculosis prevention and control work has been fruitful. China has gradually established a cooperative mechanism for HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis prevention and control institutions, and AIDS has been continuously controlled at a low epidemic level, and in the past 20 years, the incidence of tuberculosis has dropped by more than 40% and the mortality rate has dropped by more than 70%. These achievements have benefited from the great attention of the Chinese government, the unremitting efforts of medical staff and the silent efforts of volunteers.

Peng Liyuan said that great love has no boundaries and the avenue is boundless. Along the way, I witnessed many touching stories. Li Xiaodan integrated AIDS Red Ribbon volunteer service into her life, interpreting the belief of volunteers and children affected by AIDS "forever together" with actions, and becoming "relatives in each other's lives". After Xu Xinghua recovered from tuberculosis, he became a volunteer, sharing his knowledge of tuberculosis prevention and treatment with other patients, and did not interrupt the treatment of a tuberculosis patient during the new crown pneumonia epidemic. Here, I would like to pay tribute to the people and volunteers around the world who have made a silent contribution to the fight against AIDS and tuberculosis.

Peng Liyuan said that major infectious diseases are common challenges facing mankind, and eliminating the threat of AIDS and tuberculosis is our common aspiration. At present, the new crown pneumonia epidemic is still spreading around the world, bringing more challenges to the fight against AIDS and tuberculosis, and we need to work together to protect and strive for love. I call on people from all walks of life in all countries to join hands and take positive actions to strengthen the prevention and treatment of AIDS and tuberculosis, so that more results can benefit human health, and make efforts to build a community of human health.
