In the northeast, they are called "grass crawlers". Its scientific name is "blood-red fan-headed tick", which is a type of tick.
Tick: Also known as ticks, flat lice, grass crawlers, dog beans, it is an arthropod parasite of the very small arachnoid family Tick mites.
Every spring to summer there is a lot of news about the death of tick bites, and in 2012 there were 8 cases of people dying from tick bites in Shandong
First, we need to understand what diseases ticks spread:
1. Forest encephalitis (Russian spring-summer encephalitis), also known as Russian spring-summer encephalitis, mainly with hard ticks as a vector (ticks are divided into hard ticks and soft ticks, simple understanding is that hard ticks pinch not to die, soft ticks can be pinched to death), can cause death.
The disease is mainly distributed in the forest areas of Heilongjiang, Jilin, Inner Mongolia and Yunnan, and is the most common tick-borne infectious disease in China. But don't be afraid, this disease is more regional.
2. Xinjiang hemorrhagic fever (Crmean-Congo hemorrhagic fever), mainly based on the East Asian glass tick as the vector of transmission, is mainly distributed in Xinjiang.
3. North-Asian tick-borne typhus, the pathogen is Siberian Rickettsia sibirica, mainly based on the grassland tick as a vector, distributed in Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, Fujian, Guangdong and Hainan;
4. The pathogen of Q fever is Coxiella burnetii, mainly based on the East Asian glass tick, the bell-headed blood tick and the tiny ox tick as the medium of transmission, there are more than a dozen provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in China confirmed the existence of Q fever, Inner Mongolia, Sichuan, Yunnan, Xinjiang and Tibet and other regions have had outbreaks;
5. Human ehrlichiosis, mainly transmitted by hard ticks;
6. Lyme disease, the pathogen is Borrelia burgdorferi, mainly based on the whole ditch hard tick as the vector, there are 29 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in China, of which Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang and northeast forest areas have natural foci of Lyme disease;
7. Tick-borne relapsing fever, also known as endemic relapsing fever, mainly uses blunt-edged hard tick as the vector of transmission, and the disease is mainly endemic in Xinjiang;
8. Bacterial diseases, most of which are non-obligate tick-borne diseases (i.e., infectious diseases that are not specific to ticks), such as brucellosis and plague.
9. Babesiidae (Babesiidae), mainly invading wild animals, babesiosis is caused by small parasites invading red blood cells, seriously can be fatal, mainly with ticks as the vector of transmission (basically all common ticks in China have the possibility of carrying).
Having said all this, the most common thing that urban pets can encounter is babesiosis, the symptoms of this disease:
1. Tick bite history: Most of them are found by pet doctors during consultation, in many cases, the owner will remove the tick after finding out that the pet is bitten by ticks and ignore the harm that tick bites may bring, often when the pet comes to the hospital, the pet is already in a more serious stage of disease development;
2. High fever, anemia, jaundice, wasting, debilitating, vomiting and diarrhea, and in severe cases even vomiting blood;
3. Hematuria
On 5 July 2012, a 61-year-old man in Hong Kong was suspected of suffering from babes' disease from a tick bite from his dog when he slept with his dog in March. From the end of June to July 5, 10 bags of blood have been transfused. The disease can be fatal, but regular in vitro deworming owners don't have to be overly nervous.
So how to prevent daily pet families?
1. Try to stay away from the mountain woodland (now that the urban greenery is getting better and better, it is too difficult and unrealistic to completely stay away from the woodland and grassland);
2. Bathe regularly (parasites are easier to spot when bathing);
3. Regular deworming;
4. If the pet has been bitten by ticks, send it to the doctor in time and do relevant examinations, and the initial detection of infection or direct preventive chemotherapy can effectively prevent and control the disease;
Here is a detailed introduction to regular deworming, which is also the most effective and fundamental way to prevent the disease.
1. Long-term prevention: At this stage, commonly used clinical drugs (Flaine, Big Pet, Please Pet, Ni Credible, Super Credible, etc.) can effectively prevent ticks.
Basically, it is absorbed by the sebaceous gland or digestive tract for a long time in the sebaceous glands of the skin, and is slowly released to the sebaceous layer, and ticks will be poisoned and die once they bite the pet.
The advantage is that the prevention time is longer, generally at least one month can be prevented, so it is best to do it once a month, but now it is recommended to take oral in vitro deworming drugs, because the percutaneous absorption of in vitro deworming drugs is subject to light, pet bathing, pet skin health and age and other external factors have a greater impact.
Oral drugs are obviously not affected by the above factors, the only possible disadvantage is that pets with poor digestive tract function can appear vomiting and straining symptoms after oral medication, and the parents of the majority of hairy children are at their own discretion;
2. Emergency prevention: The emergency prevention drugs recommended here have long been clinically used as an emergency treatment for infected tick pets, but such drugs (mostly sprays) can be used for emergency prevention, if the pet is about to play in the wild environment, you can spray such drugs on the whole body before departure, spray on the whole body after returning from play, with long-acting in vitro deworming drugs, basically can protect the pets, such drugs can also be used for insecticide in the infected environment, the specific use of the method can refer to the previous article on fleas.
The next is a small point, but also said a thousand times in many places, if you find that the hairy child has been bitten by ticks, do not try to use brute force to pull out the tick without experience!
Doing so can easily leave the head and mouthparts of ticks in the animal body, which is very easy to cause infection and even cause serious diseases such as purulent sepsis.
If it is really inconvenient to go to the pet hospital, you can use a cigarette butt to burn the tail of the tick, and the tick will most likely slowly withdraw from the skin.
