Nanfang Daily News (Reporter/Bian Delong Intern/Feng Jiaqi) "I announce that the 'Experiment 6' research ship has set sail for the first time! On September 6, accompanied by a loud whistle, the new geophysical comprehensive scientific research vessel "Experiment 6" anchored from the Xinzhou Wharf in Guangzhou and rushed to the pearl river estuary - the northern waters of the South China Sea, performing the first voyage after delivery.
At about 10:00 a.m., under the scorching sun, the brand-new "Experiment 6" anchored on the shore, and the 60-person scientific expedition team on the deck was ready to go. The first voyage is expected to last for 10 days, and the scientific expedition team will go to the predetermined sea area under the leadership of Du Yan, deputy director and researcher of the South China Sea Institute of Oceanography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, to perform an important scientific mission of multidisciplinary comprehensive observation.
"'Experiment 6' is equipped with high-tech equipment such as the full-sea depth multi-beam bathymetric system, the marine gravimeter, and the 10,000-meter thermohaline depth profiler, and will perform 11 scientific expedition tasks covering physical oceanography, marine geology, marine ecology, etc., and obtain precious water bodies, substrate samples and data on different depth sections." Du Yan said.
As an important scientific and educational infrastructure construction project approved by the National Development and Reform Commission, the "Experiment 6" construction project is undertaken by the South China Sea Institute of Oceanography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, with a total investment of 517.5 million yuan. The research vessel was officially delivered on December 18 last year, using the most advanced international design concept and the detection means to reach the international advanced level.
Walking into the cabin, you can see a number of advanced equipment such as the "Sea Wing" underwater glider carried by "Experiment 6". In the laboratory, the scientific expedition team members are already debugging various instruments and preparing for experiments.
"'Experiment 6' carries a large number of equipment independently developed by China like the 'Sea Wing', which is a new type of maritime mobile laboratory, reflecting the continuous enhancement of China's marine comprehensive scientific research capabilities." Mao Huabin, the leader of the scientific expedition, said.
Speaking of the significance of the first voyage of the scientific expedition, Du Yan said that this multidisciplinary comprehensive observation will help analyze the land-sea interaction process and material migration and transformation mechanism of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and its adjacent seas, reveal the regulation mechanism of ecological security in the Greater Bay Area, and further provide scientific and technological support for the development of the marine economy and ecological security in the Greater Bay Area.
