According to Xinhua News Agency, Reuters and other media reported on the 8th, Usama Rabiye, chairman of the Egyptian Suez Canal Authority, held a press conference on the 7th to say that the "Changzhi" freighter that was blocked by the Suez Canal due to stranding in March this year officially left the canal on the same day. A farewell ceremony was also held on the canal side to commemorate the departure of the Long Gift.

Rabiye said the owner of the Changshi had signed a settlement agreement with the Authority. He did not disclose the amount of compensation finalized in the agreement, but reiterated that the incident caused losses and negative effects on the Suez Canal. But previously, Egypt had demanded $550 million in damages from shipowners.

According to previous reports by websites such as The Egyptian Pyramid Online, the Ismailia Economic Court agreed on the 6th to lift the seizure order of the "Changzhi" and allowed it to leave the canal on the 7th at the request of the Suez Canal Authority and continue to the port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

Previously, a number of media reported that the 400-meter-long "Changzhi" ran aground due to strong winds during the passage of the Suez Canal in March this year, and then got stuck in the middle of the rocks. The cargo ship was rescued after six days of rescue operations, which affected global trade. The amount of compensation for this incident evolved into a long and complicated legal "rip-off", and the Long Gift was temporarily seized by the canal management. (End)
