author:Sun Wei stoma therapist

Redness at the base of the stoma refers to the location of redness at the base of the mucous membrane of the stoma for one week.

Cause analysis

1. Flat or depressed / Uneven skin around the stoma / Scarring / Wrinkles / Hyperplasia of granulation tissue around the stoma and other reasons lead to leakage of excrement and irritation of the skin.

2. Ileostomy excrement is relatively thin / Digestive enzymes in intestinal fluid / urine leakage along the base of the stoma under the chassis, irritating the skin caused.

3. The center hole of the chassis is cut relatively large, so that the excrement directly irritates the skin.

4. The chassis is worn for a long time, and the skin at the root of the stoma is in a humid environment for a long time, and it is prone to various skin infections.

5. Insufficient compression around the central hole or incorrect compression technique when pasting the chassis, the central hole of the chassis is not closely adhered to the skin, resulting in leakage, and excrement irritation to the skin.

How to prevent and deal with it

1. For uneven skin around the stoma, or for ileostomy and urinary tract stoma, use a leak-proof plastic patch ring before wearing the chassis, surround the base of the stoma for a week, and press tightly, the plastic patch ring can fill in the sunken part and prevent the leakage of stool fluid from irritating the root skin.

2. Correctly cut the central hole of the chassis, during the edema period of 6-8 weeks after the stoma, the size of the stoma should be measured every time it is worn, and the diameter of the chassis cutting hole is greater than the intestinal stoma 1-2mm.

3. Grasp the appropriate chassis wearing time, fully press the entire adhesive area after wearing the chassis, especially around the central hole, lie down for 10-15 minutes and then get up and move.
