In my teaching, I generally do not engage in individual breath exercises, but at the same time train the voice, I deal with the breathing problem as a whole according to the student's situation. Chinese opera also wants to pay attention to the breath in training, such as: luck, stealing gas, ventilation, pressure, breathing, breathing, pumping, breathing, etc., some of which are required for singing content and integrated with the performance emotions.

In any case, the breath should be sucked in, and the singing should be good at application and retention. At present, I know that breathing can be roughly divided into three types, namely: chest, chest and abdomen, I advocate the use of abdominal breathing in teaching, because it sucks deeply, there is no sound when inhaling, the movement is small and flexible, and it has a relaxing and relieving effect on chest stiffness and throat tightness.

Under normal circumstances, in singing, the qi is easily inhaled and full, and it is stiff if it is not good, but it cannot sing normally. I think the breath in singing must be sucked in a positive and relaxed state, the so-called positive is excited upwards, relaxation refers to the sigh downwards, singing breathing is very similar to breathing in sleep, both relaxed and even, it is the abdominal breathing state, you can use this feeling to experience it is beneficial.

Here's how I ask students to breathe during class:

First, "sighing inhalation": We know that the sighing state is downward, but also relaxed, which is in line with the breath requirements of singing, so the use of first sigh and then inhale, sigh to that suck, singing in the process of paying attention to maintain the state of sighing, each musical sentence should be so, forming a virtuous breathing cycle, singing can overcome the problem of shallow breath, stiffness.

Second, the lower fulcrum "inhalation method": the previous in the "reverse lifting method" mentioned the "lower fulcrum", it is at the diaphragm (the fourth button of the Zhongshan suit) is also the position of the abdominal breathing I refer to, when inhaling, it feels directly at the "lower fulcrum" suction, and not through the nose, mouth, trachea, each inhalation must be done, you can do the inhalation state of abdominal breathing.

Of course, the feeling I am talking about is not really like that, it can only be a means to an end, and the inhalation is not through the nose, mouth, and trachea? So in the context of enlightenment, it is important to illustrate that sensory teaching is only a means of enlightenment that uses feelings, assumptions, and metaphors to enable students to master the scientific method.

Third, "smell the fancy inhalation": this suction method, can also be applied, because the smell of the fancy suction deep, no sound and obvious movements, but also easy to understand and master, but in the smell of the flower inhalation, do not close the mouth too tightly, will affect the speed and flexibility of the intake, at the same time, the mouth should be naturally open with the nose to suck is better.

Fourth, "high position inhalation method": The previous "inhalation method" mentioned that "how to inhale is how to sing, the state of inhalation is the state of singing." Therefore, when inhaling, pay attention to the high position of the inhalation state, in the inhalation process, it seems that the breath is through the nose and the upper teeth of the mouth, the upper palate to the diaphragm, so when singing can be sung according to the inspiratory state as it is, you can achieve a high position and a deep breath as one sound.

If the position is low when inhaling, it seems to be attached to the lower teeth and tongue surface, and only the mouth is sucked, then it is inevitable that the inhalation is shallow, there is action, there is a sound, and the sound sung with such a breath must be horizontal, white, shallow, tight, narrow range, and it is difficult to solve the problem of treble. The inhalation method mentioned above is the different prompt methods I use in teaching according to the specific problems of students, each with its own effect, as long as the right medicine is prescribed, it will achieve the expected purpose.

Fifth, the application and maintenance of breath in singing: The inhalation method in singing was mentioned earlier, and the right side of the inhalation is the first step and the key to singing well, which is related to whether the entire singing state is reasonable. If you suck it wrong, you must be wrong to sing, but if you suck it right, you are not good at applying and maintaining it in singing, which is also equivalent to the wrong way of singing.

Often some singers feel short of breath and insufficient in the singing process, the more they sing, the more they hold back, it is very difficult, which is related to not using the breath and maintaining the breath, some people although they suck very deeply, as soon as they sing, the gas will come up or run out, for this problem, I use two methods in training:

(1) Maintain the inspiratory state during singing: While singing outward, always maintain the inspiratory state, forming an internal and external confrontation, it can not only ensure the depth of the breath, but also make the breath even, smooth and lasting when singing. Singing with the inspiratory state is just a feeling, in fact, no one can still inhale in the process of singing, but just use this feeling to achieve the purpose of maintaining the breath. It ensures a balance between sound and breath, and also keeps the breath deep and unobstructed. In the process of singing, the more insufficient the breath is, the more it is necessary to suck in, and the problem can be alleviated. Objectively listening, the breath is useful for an inexhaustible sense.

(2) Sighing state in singing: Generally, there is insufficient breath, shortness of breath or breath holding phenomenon in singing, which is directly related to stiffness and shallowness. The best solution is to relax and sigh, sighing is a habitual action in our lives, everyone will, or master, I use this feeling to inspire students to put down the breath and keep this state of singing. The breath is not only deep, but also natural, relaxing and fluid. The problems of stiffness and shallowness of breath are also solved; of course, the problems of holding breath and insufficient breath or shortness of breath do not exist. When singing in the state of sighing, it is necessary to pay attention to the sound not to detach from the breath, otherwise it will be disjointed and it will be difficult to maintain the breath.
