Chen Kancai's hometown has now been converted into a one-story flat-roofed house.
Chen Meijian was awarded the medal "Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China".
A few days ago, the reporter came to the hometown of Chen Kancai, the founder of the Zhuwu Traffic Liaison Station. It was a red family, and Chen Kancai and several of his siblings took part in revolutionary activities. Chen Zengcai, one of the eight martyrs who died in Shapo Town, Luchuan County, was Chen Kancai's third brother. At that time, Chen Kancai, together with his brother Chen Chaoying, took out the deeds of the family's about 1.33 hectares of paddy fields and mortgaged them to the bank in exchange for revolutionary funds. For this reason, their family was often besieged by Kuomintang reactionaries, and even their parents were arrested by Kuomintang reactionaries and were not rescued until after the founding of New China.
"Before the founding of New China, we were slandered by the Kuomintang reactionaries as a 'bandit family' and threatened to exterminate us, but we never wanted to back down." Chen Kancai's sister, the 92-year-old Chen Meijian, recalled.
The family was once monitored by Kuomintang reactionaries
Chen Kancai's hometown has now been converted into a one-story flat-roofed house with a rolling mountain behind it. "In 2006, we demolished and rebuilt the old house." Chen Kancai's nephew Chen Xiaoyong introduced that because his father Chen Chaoying and several uncles and aunts participated in the revolution, they were often monitored by the Kuomintang reactionaries at that time. Later, the Kuomintang reactionaries also dispatched troops many times to prepare for the round-up of his father, uncle, and aunt. Fortunately, every time the villagers came to help, his family escaped many dangers.
Once, Chen Kancai, along with his eldest brother, eldest sister-in-law, eldest sister, and younger sister, went to the mountain behind his home to attend a meeting held by the CCP organization. Because someone had informed them, the meeting was halfway through and was rounded up by the Kuomintang county government. Fortunately, they were helped by villagers with a sense of justice and escaped the disaster.
Chen Xiaoyong said: In the past, the Kuomintang reactionaries introduced the "joint guarantee" system, but his family was the only one whose family no one dared to "joint guarantee." But even in this case, his grandfather and grandmother vigorously supported their children to participate in the revolution, and often said to their children: "I believe that your choice is right!" ”
Once, when the revolutionary ancestor Lin Kewu went to Datong Township (present-day Daqiao Town, Luchuan County) to inspect the work, due to the lack of revolutionary funds, he suggested that Chen Chaoying take out the family's field deeds in exchange for revolutionary funds. After receiving the support of their families, Chen Chaoying and Chen Kancai took all the deeds of about 1.33 hectares of paddy fields in their homes to pawn, and obtained more than 3,500 kilograms of grain, part of which was directly handed over to the CCP organization, and part of which was given to another party member, Chen Hanquan, as a capital to open two rice shops on Daqiao Street to expand economic resources to support the revolution. "Because of the contribution of Chen Kancai's family to the revolution, after the founding of New China, Lin Kewu instructed Chen Meijian to write out the revolutionary deeds of their family and preserve them as party history materials for Luchuan County." Li Yingze, a first-level director of the Luchuan County Party History Office, said.
Infiltrated the Kuomintang county government and secretly worked for the CCP revolution
In 1944, Chen Chaoying graduated from Xunwuhu Normal School, that is, returned to Datong Township Central School to teach, and in 1947 he was transferred to the principal of the central school of Dayuan Township (now Shanluo Town, Luchuan County), which was quite prestigious. At that time, after Chen Kancai returned from the guerrilla zone in Guangdong and Guizhou, he used his identity as a teacher as a cover to carry out secret revolutionary activities. Under the influence of Chen Kancai, Chen Chaoying was also full of yearning for revolution. At that time, when Luchuan County was holding the second election for the replacement of pseudo-township chiefs, Chen Kancai decided to let Chen Chaoying participate in the election and establish a revolutionary two-sided regime. Later, through the planning of Chen Kancai and the CCP organization, Chen Chaoying resigned from the post of principal, returned to his hometown to run for pseudo-township mayor, and was finally elected as he wished.
"Chen Chaoying's election as a pseudo-township chief marked the birth of the two-sided regime of the Datong Township revolution." Li Yingze introduced: As soon as Chen Chaoying took office, he went to meet with Lin Kewu accompanied by Chen Kancai, listened to instructions, accepted tasks, and clarified his approach. Since then, Chen Chaoying has openly "actively" "done things" for the Kuomintang government, but secretly he is actually trying to work for the CCP revolution. Later, thanks to his efforts, many people in the original Kuomintang county government secretly supported the revolutionary activities of the CCP. In addition, Chen Chaoying also took advantage of every opportunity to contact key officials of the Kuomintang county government in many ways and to spy on the reactionary intelligence of the Kuomintang county government. Once, when he learned that the Kuomintang county government had sent special agent Lan Moumou to Datong Township to secretly investigate the activities of the underground armed workers' brigade, he promptly relayed the information to the CPC organization.
Under the cover of Chen Chaoying, the revolutionary activities in Datong Township were in full swing, especially in the northern region. The leader of the armed forces in this area was none other than his younger brother Chen Kancai. "In September 1948, Chen Chaoying's true identity was exposed, and the enemy was ready to attack him, so the CCP organization approved him to go underground." Li Yingze said.
Give play to our strong points and do a good job in revolutionary united front work
After Chen Chaoying transferred to underground work, he served as the leader of the armed workers' team and vigorously carried out revolutionary work. He was already familiar with the pseudo-village chiefs and pseudo-chiefs of various villages, and some of them were even close friends. After moving to underground work, he boldly went to these people's homes to do their ideological transformation work and win them support for the revolution. Li Yingze introduced that for example, Lu Chaoming, a wealthy household in Sanshan Village at that time, had a certain reputation in the local area, and Chen Chaoying and his comrades-in-arms directly visited him to tell him about the excellent situation of the revolution and publicize the policies of the Communist Party. In the end, Lu Chaoming generously donated 200 kilograms of grain. Chen Silun of Lizhuchong in Pingshan Village is also a well-known local wealthy family, and his son Chen Xipeng is the financial and grain administrator of Datong Township. Chen Chaoying first wrote a letter to educate them, and then led the team to the door to do their ideological work. Finally, Chen Silun and Chen Xipeng not only donated 100 yuan of silver and 10 stones of rice, but also said that the rice in the granary of Datong Township was ready to supply the armed workers at any time.
In addition to paying attention to the united front work of well-known people in society, Chen Chaoying also paid attention to doing a good job in the work of 10 pseudo-village chiefs and establishing a revolutionary two-sided political power at the village level. Through his efforts, except for the pseudo-village chiefs of Sanshan Village who stubbornly fled, the pseudo-village chiefs of the remaining 9 villages were all connected with the underground armed workers.
Li Yingze said that by the second half of 1949, except for a few villages in Datong Township, most of the villages had been fully opened up, and they were connected into entire guerrilla areas. According to incomplete statistics, the whole township raised about 900 taels of silver, thousands of kilograms of rice, and more than 40 guns of various kinds, and mobilized nearly a hundred young revolutionary cadres to join the army, effectively supporting the revolution.
After several adventures, the brothers are still determined
On the 27th day of the lunar month in 1948, Chen Chaoying, Chen Kancai and others were informed when they were moving their positions, and the Kuomintang county government sent police to search and arrest them overnight. At that time, due to Chen Kancai's initial recovery from a serious illness and his weak body, as soon as he stopped, he quickly fell asleep. Chen Chaoying was also asleep due to fatigue and did not transfer again. When it was almost dawn, the dogs in the village were barking, and the brothers were awakened to find that they were surrounded by enemies and could not rush out, so they hid in each direction of the firewood house, intending to fight the enemy to the death. In order to protect them, the owner of the house took the initiative to come out and leave with the police (released after 3 days), and the brothers escaped the disaster. Another time, Chen Chaoying led seven or eight comrades to Lutuo Village for activities, and suddenly some people reported that there were Kuomintang county government policemen entering the village, so he quickly led his comrades to retreat to the mountain, but when it was heavy rain, he had to hide in a charcoal kiln to avoid the rain, and when he came out, his face was dark.
Under the influence of Chen Chaoying, his eldest sister Chen Guancai, his younger sisters Chen Meijian, Chen Meiying, and his sister-in-law Li Qun all participated in revolutionary activities. When Chen Meijian was in junior high school, he participated in the reading club, secretly read progressive books and periodicals, received Marxist-Leninist education, and constantly mobilized his classmates to join the reading club. After graduating from junior high school in August 1949, he joined the underground martial arts team. Chen Chaoying's younger brother began to deliver letters to the martial arts team at the age of 12. The family fought side by side in that special period and interpreted the glory years with blood.
