Chen Bozong (12 June 554 or 20 June 552 – May 570), also known as Emperor Chen (reigned 566–568), courtesy name Fengye, was the eldest son of Emperor Wen of Chen, the eldest son of Emperor Wen of Chen, and his mother Empress Dowager Shen Miaorong, the third emperor of the Chen Dynasty.
In April of the first year of Tiankang (566), Chen Bozong took the throne after the death of his father Emperor Wen of Chen, and because of Chen Bozong's young age, he made his uncle Chen Yan the Prince of Ancheng the Situ, Lu Shang Shushi, and the governor of various Chinese and foreign militaries. Chen Huan was the second son of Chen Daotan and the younger brother of Chen Xuan.

Chen Yan, Zhi Zhongju, and Liu Shizhi were assisted by the will of the former emperor. Liu Shizhi and Zhi Zhongju were often in the palace and participated in the decision of many things. Chen Huan and 300 of his close associates entered Shangshu Province, and Liu Shizhi saw that Chen Huan's door and power were being noticed by the imperial court and the people, and he was jealous, and He and Shangshu Zuo Cheng Wang Xian and other plots wanted to exclude Chen Yan from Shangshu Province.
Everyone hesitated, and did not dare to take the lead in attacking. The Eastern Palace's general servant Yin Buyou, who had always taken the maintenance of fame and integrity as his own responsibility, plus his position in the Eastern Palace, was personally appointed by the emperor, so he rushed to Shangshu Province to falsely pass on the holy will and said to Chen Yan: "Now that there is nothing in the world, King Ancheng can return to his own Eastern Palace to manage state affairs." ”
Chen Yan was preparing to leave Shangshu Province, when Mao Xi of the Zhongji Office rushed to see him and said: "The time when the Chen Dynasty had a world in possession was still very short, and the country encountered major funerals one after another, and everyone up and down felt worried and afraid. After much deliberation, the empress dowager decided to ask you to join forces with King AnCheng into Shangshu Province to perform various deeds, and what Yin Buyu said must not be what the empress dowager meant. Now leaving Shangshu Province will be constrained by others, such as Cao Shuang, who only wants to be a rich man, how can this be done! ”
Chen Yan sent Mao Xi to consult with the leading general Wu Mingche, and Wu Mingche said: "The successor monarch is in mourning, and many of the daily and complicated administrative affairs have not yet been started. His Highness, who is close to the Duke of Zhou and Zhao Gong, should assist the Emperor in stabilizing the country, and hopes that His Highness will stay in Shangshu Province without doubt. ”
Chen Yan then pretended to be ill, asked Liu Shizhi to come, kept him for conversation, and sent Mao Xixian to inform the empress dowager. The empress dowager said: "Now that Emperor Bozong is young, political affairs are entrusted to Erlang Chen. What Yin Buyo said was not what I meant. ”
Mao Xi went to tell Chen Bozong about this again. Chen Bozong said, "This is what Master Liu knew about their own actions, but He didn't know it. Mao Xi came back to report to Chen Hao. Chen Yan imprisoned Liu Shizhi, personally went into the palace to see the empress dowager and Chen Bozong, tried his best to state Liu Shizhi's crimes, and drafted an edict himself to ask Chen Bozong for approval, to hand Liu Shizhi over to Ting Wei, and that night, Liu Zhizhi was put to death in prison. At the same time, Zhongju was appointed as the Grand Master of Jin ZiGuanglu, and Wang Xian and Yin Buyong were sent to the relevant departments for punishment.
Yin Buyong was Yin Buyou's younger brother, and when he was a teenager, he was very filial to his parents, and Chen Haopingsu valued him very much, so he was not executed, but was only deposed. Wang Xian was executed. Since then, the major policies of the country have been attributed to Chen Hao.
In November of the second year of Guangda (568), Chen Bomao, the king of Sixing (Chen Bomao was the half-brother of the deposed emperor Chen Bozong), was upset because of the dictatorship of Chen Bozong, the king of Ancheng, and often spoke evil words.
On the 23rd, Chen Huan falsely accused the deposed emperor Chen Bozong by order of the empress dowager, saying that he had conspired with Liu Shizhi, Hua Jiao, and others. He also said: "Emperor Wen's censorship of his son did not want to pass the throne to Chen Bozong, which was equivalent to Tang Yao; the bosom of passing the throne to his brother was like that of Taibo. The time has come to reaffirm Emperor Wen's previous intentions and establish another wise monarch. ”
Therefore, in the name of the empress dowager, the reigning emperor Chen Bozong was deposed as the King of Linhai, and Chen Yan, the prince of Ancheng, was added to the emperor's throne.
He also ordered that Chen Bomao be demoted to the rank of Marquis of Wenma and placed in the annex where the royals were married, and The King of Ancheng, Chen Yan, had bandits intercept Chen Bomao on his way to the annex, and kill his 17-year-old nephew in the car.
After Chen Bozong was deposed as the King of Linhai, Empress Wang was also demoted to a princess. On the same day, Chen Bozong was thrown out of the palace and lived in a palace elsewhere.
Less than two years later, in April of the second year of Taijian (570), Chen Bozong died inexplicably (he was killed by Chen Yan's men), reigning for 3 years, at the age of 16. Buried in the tomb of the Linhai King.
