On 30 April, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a telephone conversation with Cyprus Foreign Minister Christo Turidis.

Christo Duridis thanked the Chinese side for its help in fighting the epidemic and said that the Serbian side is willing to work with the Chinese side to jointly hold the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and further enhance Serbian-Chinese relations. The Cypriot side firmly pursues the one-China policy, firmly supports the EU's active development of cooperation with China, and can continue to play a constructive role in this regard. The Cypriot side briefed the "5+1" informal meeting on the Cyprus issue held in Geneva and appreciated and expected the Chinese side to continue to uphold a fair position on the Cyprus issue.

Wang Yi said that China and Cyprus are good friends and partners with mutual respect and win-win cooperation. The two countries understand and support each other on issues involving each other's core interests and major concerns, and are committed to safeguarding mutual trust and friendship between China and Cyprus, safeguarding the basic norms governing international relations, and safeguarding the overall situation of healthy and stable China-EU relations. The two countries have also continuously injected new impetus into mutually beneficial cooperation through the joint construction of the "Belt and Road". This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Cyprus. The Chinese side is willing to hold various forms of celebration activities with the Cypriot side to further consolidate the public opinion foundation for Sino-Cypriot friendship.

Wang Yi said that China and the EU are comprehensive strategic partners, cooperation is the right way, and confrontation will lose both. It is hoped that the Cypriot side will continue to play an active role in promoting the development of China-EU relations. The holding of the "5+1" informal meeting on Cyprus as scheduled is itself a positive signal. China will continue to support all parties in promoting the development of the Cypriot issue towards a comprehensive, just and lasting settlement, provided that they strictly abide by the relevant United Nations resolutions and fully respect the will of the Cypriot people.
