After the uprising of Chiang Kai-shek's troops, stabilizing the hearts and minds of the army was a big problem. The 60th Army is no exception. For the 60th Army, the biggest factor of instability at that time was the provisional 52nd Division.
Zeng Zesheng led an uprising in Changchun
The commander of this division, Li Song, was an old subordinate of Feng Shengfa, the commander of the 58th Division of the 74th Army of the famous Anti-Japanese Iron Army, and he was always "loyal" to Chiang. Because of this, after the success of the 60th Army uprising, Li Song and the other three regimental commanders were first detained and then escorted to the Liberated Areas. At this point, the provisional 52nd Division, which has no division commander, how should it be transformed?
In fact, the transformation of the provisional 52nd Division was not an easy task. According to the records, at that time, the division was very complex, not only had returning regiments, puppet Manchu officers, police, gendarmes, and secret agents, but also bandits, landlords, gang leaders, and secret service organizations. The provisional 52nd Division, composed of these personnel, is so difficult to transform that it is difficult not to make trouble. Sure enough, when the Cultural and Labor Troupe of the Political Department of the Northeast Military Region performed the opera "White Haired Girl" with condolences, an accident occurred.
Usually, when other fraternal units organize to watch the opera performance of "The White-Haired Girl", the theater is usually very quiet, and the cries of poor Xi'er's tragic encounters are heard from time to time. However, when performing for the provisional 52nd Division, the local lord Huang Shiren was smug and smug, and when he opened his mouth, he actually caused some officers and men to "clap their hands and applaud." The officers and men who "clapped their hands and applauded" not only did not admit their mistakes, but on the contrary replied with a fierce momentum: "Who are you talking about?" The words did not fall, directly rushed up and swung their fists at each other, and the whole theater was suddenly chaotic.
Afterwards, at an emergency meeting held overnight, Commander Zeng Zesheng introduced that since the provisional 52nd Division was assigned to the 60th Army, although it obeyed orders in combat, it always obeyed the Yin and Yin of the 60th Army and was not honest at all. In the Changchun Uprising, General Zeng Zesheng forced them to revolt under the condition of detaining the commander and commander of the 52nd Division, and only then did they succeed. After the uprising, Zeng Zesheng was very worried that the division would defect.

Yang Bin, who was familiar with the details of the Dian Army, demanded that the weapons of the Provisional 52nd Division be surrendered first. In Yang Bin's view, the 2 divisions of the 60th Army are also unstable and need to be transformed. Although the cadres of the People's Liberation Army who have transformed the insurrectionary troops are in the process of being mobilized, after all, the number is limited, and in a short period of time, there are no surplus cadres transferred to the provisional 52nd Division.
For Liu Hao, the first representative of the 60th Army, he also felt that the problem was very difficult. Before convening this meeting, he had already received a notice from his superiors that "to transform the 60th Army, we must adhere to the established policy, but we should not be too hasty." Obviously, the superiors were also worried that in the work of transforming the 60th Army, there would be an accident fueled by seedlings.
The guns of the provisional 52nd Division were surrendered, and although they were safe, they were not in line with our army's policy. Once there is an antagonistic emotion, how can it be good?
Thinking of this, Liu Hao made a clever move and suggested that I had received a notice that the main force of the First Corps had gone south, and that Commander Xiao Jinguang was going to visit the troops before leaving Changchun.

Liu Hao, who was sitting on the sidelines, immediately stood up and not only openly expressed his support for Li Zuo, but also made it clear the danger of separating officers and men and forcing the provisional 52nd Division to surrender its weapons.

Xiao Jinguang then turned his gaze to Zeng Zesheng and said in a serious tone, "The superiors have decided to reorganize the 60th Army into an army of the People's Liberation Army on the basis of retaining the original structure, equipped with political work cadres at all levels, and return to Yunnan to liberate all of China!" ”

Afterwards, it turned out that the rebel generals of the 60th Army were not unreasonable in their fears about the provisional 52nd Division. In the process of subsequent transformation, the provisional 52nd Division had many incidents of "pulling the team" and "deserting."
Nevertheless, under the unified arrangements of the higher authorities, the work of cleaning up and rectifying the provisional 52nd Division was carried out as scheduled and successfully completed. As long as they have been policemen, gendarmes, spies, bandits, the elderly, the sick and disabled, and smoke cigarettes, all of them will be cleared out of the team. Some are paid, some are reviewed, and one by one is screened.
Pu Shaolin, the instructor who fell from the mountain in the bloody war hat of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, was sent to the Fourth Company of the Provisional 52nd Division as an instructor with a hard scalp. Taking his regiment as an example, the original 10 companies were reduced to 5 companies. The four companies in which Pu Shaolin belonged were even reduced to the strength of only one reinforced platoon.
On January 2, 1949, according to the order, the three divisions of the 60th Army of Zeng Zesheng's rebel forces, the 182nd Division, the Provisional 51st Division, and the Provisional 52nd Division, were reorganized into the 50th Army, the 148th Division, the 149th Division, and the 150th Division, with Zeng Zesheng as the commander and Xu Wenlie as the political commissar. Thanks to the efforts of all levels, the problem of "dishonesty" of the provisional 52nd Division was finally completely resolved, and this insurrectionary force embarked on a glorious journey of rebirth.
