At the end of 1925, Lin Biao was admitted to the Whampoa Military Academy as a fourth-term student, first in the student corps and then in the 3rd Company of the 2nd Regiment of Infantry.
Since the Whampoa Military Academy enrolled in May 1924, it has held three phases, and the fourth phase has recruited more than 500 cadets, and the famous generals of the same period as Lin Biao include Xie Jinyuan, Zhang Lingfu, Hu Lian, Liu Zhidan, Yuan Guoping, Li Mi, Wen Qiang, Tang Shengming, Que Hanqian and so on. However, at the Whampoa Military Academy, although Lin Biao was one of the few publicly identified members of the CCP and the secretary of the party branch of the 3rd Company, he was relatively mediocre in his studies and politically inactive. Suddenly, he went behind the pillow to get the gun and sat down on the bed to make a aiming motion. However, he forgot that there was still a bullet in the chamber of the gun, and as soon as he pulled the trigger, the bullet "snapped" and shot out.
A shot suddenly "snapped" in the cadet dormitory! The star officer on duty immediately ran in with a flashlight and asked the squad leader Wen Qiang: "Wen Qiang, you are the squad leader, what did you see?" Who's shooting? ”

After Yao Chun left, Chiang Kai-shek called Dai Ren, director of the ordnance department of the school. Dai Ren is 64 years old and an expert in weapons. Chiang Kai-shek asked him: "Why didn't the guns used for teaching and training be collected into the military armory?" ”
Dai Ren replied truthfully: "I was negligent in my work and was willing to accept any punishment from the principal." ”
When Chiang Kai-shek saw that Dai Ren was old and honest, and his usual work was also good, he waved his hand after a few words of reproach: "Go back, go back!" ”
The next day, the personnel sent by Yao Chun to investigate came to the 2nd Regiment of Buke. Lin Biao had a good relationship with Guan Linzheng, commander of the 3rd Company, Xu Baoding, commander of the 2nd Battalion, Zhang Youren, commander of the 2nd Regiment, and others; in addition, cpc members of the Whampoa Military Academy, such as the political instructor Yun Daiying, and the political instructor and secretary of the special branch of the CPC, Yang Qigang, and others all spoke for Lin Biao. After listening to the reports of the cadres of the regiment, battalion, and company, the investigators went to Lin Biao's dormitory to take a look at it, and finally concluded that Lin Biao studied and trained hard, and at night he accidentally went astray because he pondered, summed up, and reflected on the training situation during the day, and did not deliberately violate discipline.
Chiang Kai-shek listened to the investigation report and thought that this was different from ordinary accidents, so he said: "Lin Biao's classmates will be exempted from punishment." But lessons need to be learned to prevent such things from happening again. ”
In this way, Lin Biao's late-night gun fire storm was calmed down. However, afterwards, Lin Biao no longer paid attention to the squad leader Wen Qiang. In July 1997, Wen Qiang said in an interview about this matter:

After receiving the amnesty, I participated in the work of the Cultural and Historical Materials Committee of the CppcC National Committee, went to the northeast, and inspected the northeast battlefield of that year. Judging from what we have heard and seen, the Kuomintang was defeated so quickly in the northeast battlefield, and so many elite troops were wiped out by the troops under his leadership, and I still admired his ability to command and fight..."
Lin Biao almost injured people by fire, and interestingly, four years later, he was almost killed by fire.
This was in October 1929.
On October 24, Lin Biao, then commander of the First Column of the Red 4th Army, and Peng Hu, a party representative, led their troops to a place called Jiaoling in northern Guangdong. As soon as they settled down, the local party organization sent a traffic officer to contact them and introduce the local social situation. Lin Biao received him in the room where Ouyang Yi lived. There was no furniture in the room, only a bed. Lin Biao, Peng Hu and the visitor sat on the bed while talking, while Ouyang Yi sat on the other side of the bed in charge of taking notes.

After talking, the traffic officer sat on the bed and played with the gun for a while before leaving. Ouyang Yi was busy sorting out the conversation records and did not care about him.
After sending the guests away, Ouyang Yi handed over the record of the conversation to Lin Biao and Peng Hu to read. Lin Biao looked down at the record, and Ouyang Yi found that his pistol had moved out of place, so he picked up the pistol to check and pulled the trigger. He never expected when the traffic officer would actually load the bullet drum, "snap", the gun went off the fire, the bullet came out of the chamber, and it passed by the ear of Lin Biao, who was watching the record.
Lin Biao was startled, stood up, covered his ears and said, "It's so loud!"
Ouyang Yi was even more startled, and immediately looked over, Lin Biao's ears were burned red by the bullets that flew by. If the bullet is further deflected, the consequences are unimaginable. Peng Hu said a little afraidly, "Zhen Xuan, I almost died another commander!"
Another commander was Liu Angong, the commander of the Second Column, who was killed in the Battle of Shixiaba that day.
Hearing the gunshots, Xie Hanyi, director of the Political Department, rushed into the house, and when he saw that there was no danger, he couldn't help but joke to Ouyang Yi: "How dangerous!
