Xi Gang (1746 ~1803), the first name of the steel, the character Chunzhang, the later character Tiesheng, the number of Mengquan, Luo'an, alias Xi Daoren, Scattered Wood Resident, Donghua An Lord, etc., Qiantang people. Originally from Shexian County, Anhui Province, he lived with his father in Qiantang since childhood. Famous seal engraver and painter of the Qing Dynasty.
Xi Gang works in calligraphy, and calligraphy, cursive writing, and seal writing are all exquisite. He was able to write letters at the age of nine and has enjoyed local fame since he was a teenager. The Qianlong Emperor toured Jiangnan many times, and the Governor of Zhejiang built a palace on the shore of the West Lake to welcome the holy car. Due to Xi Gang's great fame, local officials invited Xi Gang to go to the palace to paint, but he was refused. The governor, enraged, sent men to escort him to the palace. Xi Gang was not afraid of power, and said resolutely: "Those who have paintings and are tied to them? The head can be cut off, the painting cannot be obtained! The governor's staff admired his courage and praised: "Er is not a child, but an iron student." Since then, Xi Gang has been called "Tie Sheng".
Xi Gang's greatest artistic achievements were seal carving and painting. In the seal carving, he patriarchal Qin and Han ancient seals, admired Ding Jing, clumsily sought release in penmanship, fickle layout, simple and strong, and made good use of cutting knives, creating the masculine style of Zhejiang seal carving. Xi Gang was one of the important representatives of the Zhejiang PaiYin people, and he was on a par with Ding Jing, Jiang Ren, and Huang Yi, and was called the "Four Families of Xi leng". Since then, Chen Yuzhong, Chen Hongshou, Zhao Zhichen, Qian Song and others have risen one after another, collectively known as the "Eight Houses of Xileng". Xi Gang also has a high degree of achievement in painting, which is a famous one. His works are vivid and vivid, flesh and bones, and are well-known in the north and south of the river. Landscape painting is taken from Lou Dong, qing elegant and beautiful; bamboo stone flowers and trees, then super elegant meaning, self-styled rhyme. After the age of forty, his reputation is even more in the ascendant. His representative works include "Chunjiang Boat Map", "Xishan SuQiu Map", "Xishan Autumn Mist Map" and so on.
Xi Gang was born a secluded person, and his life ended in cloth. He is the author of three volumes of the Manuscript of the Embers of winter flowers.
