Pursue the object in your heart, stick to your own simple state, share your sincere feelings, feel everything in sketching, and discover yourself in the journey. ——Feng Xinqun

In my painting creation, I pursue a simple, thick and eternal spiritual feeling, through the understanding and generalization of objects and images, and explain the relationship between things and me in a simple formal language, so that the works can release the inner spiritual power. --Chen Di

Universities and colleges are one of the most important gathering places for Shanghai artists, and artists in colleges and universities serve their respective goals of art education while basing themselves on the art itself and immersing themselves in the most extensive artistic creation practice. They carry the dual responsibility of improving art education and cultural inheritance in the context of social development. Since modern times, Shanghai has been the first place for art education in the Kaihai school. In 1912, the establishment of the Shanghai Academy of Graphic Arts (later renamed Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts) not only opened the first page in the history of modern art education in China, but also marked the formal birth of a new type of school with the concept of modern art education, thus building an advanced art education system and cultivating specialized art talents, and then various art schools mushroomed, making Shanghai the largest in the country at that time, and quickly radiated to Hangzhou, Suzhou, Beijing, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Chongqing and other places. As a result, Chinese art education also has a scale series effect and has an international impact.

Zhu Gang opera character paintings on display at the scene

From the depiction of urban landscape to the portrayal of seaside fishing villages, from the attention of home life to the recording of pastoral fruits and vegetables, from the freehand of traditional opera to the visual performance of contemporary pen and ink... The surging news reporter saw at the scene that the artistic works of the 29 college art teachers participating in the exhibition showed a diversified and personalized artistic style. Among them, Zhu Gang, dean of the Academy of Fine Arts of Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts, exhibited vivid depictions of opera characters such as "Fifteen Guans Lou A Rat", and the well-known artist Shao Dazhen once commented: "Zhu Gang portrays characters, absorbs Western painting sketching techniques, and integrates the body shaping method into the brush and ink of traditional Chinese painting, which is particularly interesting." ”

Shanghai Qunyi Museum Chen Di's series of works on the sea living room present a variety of Shanghai living room scenery, including fashionable modern decoration, as well as the real scene of "trance in the world" in the old house in the countryside. It is worth mentioning that this series of works, a change in the past Chen Di's good use of black and white gray tones, the picture appears brighter and lighter. "Perhaps it is also a manifestation of my mood change, I now live in Shanghai, rooted in Shanghai, I want to record the current state of Shanghai's living room, the living room is the façade of each home, but also the epitome of life." They gather the characteristics of an era, and perhaps it will be more meaningful to look back at these works in a decade or two. Chen Di said that he will continue to carry out this series as a long-term creative direction for himself.

Artist Wang Xiaoshuang's "City of Memory" and other works start from self-subjectivity and create some imagery "monsters" that exist in the mind. The tall buildings, made up of clusters of heavy oil paints, have an almost relief textured three-dimensional style, which expresses the artist's intuitive impression of the real world. "Most of China's cities will become very similar after expansion, if you go to a second-tier city, you will find that it feels the same: the building complex in the center of the city's CBD has grown the same, before the buildings in Shanghai were old bungalows, Beijing was a courtyard, but now to see the buildings outside the fourth ring road of Beijing and outside the central ring of Shanghai are similar, they are all kinds of skyscrapers." People see the city, but they can't see its original 'face'. Wang Xiaoshuang introduced.

Xiang Art Center is located in Nanxiang Town

"This exhibition has received strong support from Nanxiang Town, Jiading District." Curator Luo Weimin told the surging news on the spot, "Nanxiang Town is a thousand-year-old town with deep historical and cultural accumulation due to the temple, and the town still preserves the ancient well of Xiaoliang built in the Southern Dynasty period and the brick pagoda of the temple during the Five Dynasties and the Northern Song Dynasty. Since the Ming and Qing dynasties, the ancient town has been full of famous artists, including Li Liufang, one of the four gentlemen of Jiading in the Ming Dynasty, Wu Zhipan, a famous bamboo carving artist in the Qing Dynasty, and Lu Yushao, a contemporary Chinese painter, all from Nanxiang. In modern times, with the rise of Shanghai, the 'Hai School', represented by Ren Bonian, Wu Changshuo and other artists, has become one of the most important painting schools in modern China. In this context, in addition to traditional art, we bring art categories including oil painting, watercolor, installation and comprehensive materials to Nanxiang, so that more artists can gather here to create and display, which I think is very meaningful for the development of culture and art in Nanxiang Town. ”

It is reported that the exhibition is sponsored by the People's Government of Nanxiang Town, Jiading District, Shanghai, Shanghai Nanxiang Zhidi Enterprise Investment Management Co., Ltd., and hosted by Xiang Art Center and Nanxiang Town Painting Art Creation Center of Jiading District, Shanghai. The exhibition will run until 27 October 2021.
