There are two characters that cannot be missed in the study of the book, one is Yu Shinan and the other is Ouyang Qian.
They were the best of the early Tang Dynasty masters, and influenced almost the entire style of writing after the Tang Dynasty. Many people do not know how to choose when it comes to learning calligraphy.
Some people may say that "wen is not the first, wu is not the second", calligraphy is no way to measure, in fact, no, any art can be measured, the key is to see at which level.

Ouyang Inquiry "Jiucheng Palace Monument"
Ouyang Inquiry and Yu Shinan's calligraphy, if from the perspective of inheriting Wang Xizhi, Yu Shinan is better, if from the perspective of calligraphy innovation ability, Ouyang Inquiry is not to be tolerated, if from the learning rate, there is no doubt that Yu Shinan is much stronger than Ouyang Inquiry, if it comes to the influence on the history of calligraphy, Yu Shinan is bigger, and the number of European calligraphy books studied in contemporary times is also the largest!
Ouyang Yuan's experience determines his character and calligraphy, as a traitor, Ouyang Que has sent people to the fence since childhood, although he is brilliant, it is difficult to hide the sensitivity in his bones, so his calligraphy cannot be moved, and a stroke is perfect.
Yu Shinan's "Acting Lianzhu" is a long volume
Yu Shinan grew up in an extremely favorable learning environment, and in calligraphy, he had the honor of worshiping Zhiyong Zen master as a teacher and learning the real Wang Xizhi brushwork, which doomed his calligraphy to start unmatched.
And Ouyang Que was also a beginner Wang Xizhi, and then fused with the style of the North Monument, and was the one who really opened the door of Tang Kai. Therefore, from the perspective of inheriting Wang Xi's legacy, Yu Shinan is better, and from the perspective of integrating the northern and southern calligraphy styles, Ouyang Zhen is better than Yu Shinan.
Ouyang Qian's calligraphy is difficult to learn because of the stability of its structure, which to some extent will limit a person's further exploration of cursive and xingshu, so Yu Shinan's calligraphy is the most suitable book style to open up the five bodies.
People who study European script often struggle to catch up with cursive writing, which is also one of the reasons why the contemporary "Ertian" brothers are not beginners in cursive writing.
In terms of official position, Yu Shinan, as a living quartersman, was equivalent to Tang Taizong's secretary, while Ouyang Qian, as Li Yuan's old vassal, was not too valued by Tang Taizong and became the prince's teacher. The reason why Tang Taizong was close to Yu Shinan was because of Yu Shinan's unique insight into the "Two Kings" brushwork.
Emperor Taizong once praised Yu Shinan in this way, saying that he had the talent of the "five absolutes":
One is virtue, the second is loyalty, the third is erudition, the fourth is literary, and the fifth is Shuhan.
This shows Yu Shinan's status. After Yu Shinan's death, he was also drawn with Ling Yan Pavilion, which was a great honor, while Ouyang Que did not have such qualifications.
Ouyang Qian's letter has been considered by successive generations to have a "cold and frugal atmosphere", which is also a detour that many people are not easy to follow. And Yu Shinan's calligraphy is as gentle as jade, like a humble gentleman, introverted in his bones, dot painting Juan Xiu, admirable!
One of Yu Shinan's best heirloom works is his "Yan Lian Zhu", which is an article written by Lu Ji, a great calligrapher of the Tang Dynasty, written by Ouyang Qian (which has been lost), Liu Gongquan also wrote, and when it comes to the nobility of temperament and the elegance of style, the easiest to learn and deeply is Yu Shinan!
Yu Shinan's calligraphy was extremely influential in the Song Dynasty, from Ouyang Xiu to Cai Xiang, from Gaozong to Zhang Jizhi, throughout the Song Dynasty. And this "Yan Lian Zhu" was written in the same year as the "Confucius Temple Monument", which is more natural and elegant in temperament, and is a peak that future generations cannot look up to.
Today, we have scanned and restored Yu Shinan's rare calligraphy masterpiece "Yan Lianzhu" according to the size of the original work, and restored the work that is no different from the original work, and the words are the same as the original.
