At the beginning of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Chen Wenbin served as the political commissar of the 719th Regiment of the 359th Brigade of the 120th Division.

When the 120th Division advanced from the northwest of Jin to Jizhong, Chen Wenbin was the political commissar of the 120th Division of the Eighth Route Army in Jinnan Anti-Japanese Self-Defense Army.

In early 1942, Chen Wenbin was killed by enemy aircraft in a battle in Jizhong.

Chen Wenbin, also known as Guangjiao and Wensheng, was born on June 12, 1911 to a poor peasant family in Buzhuang Village, Waipi Township, Chaling County, Hunan Province. He joined the Communist Youth League in the spring of 1930 and became a member of the Communist Party of China in the autumn of the same year. Soon after, he was transferred to the independent battalion of the Soviet government of Chaling County as a clerk, and was later selected to serve as a clerk in the Xianggan Independent Division and the Red Army School of the Xianggan Military Region.

In late July 1934, when Chen Wenbin was serving as an organizational officer in the political department of the Red 6th Army, he set out with his army from Hengshi in the Xianggan Su District to break through the western expedition. In January 1935, he became the political commissar of the 50th Regiment of the Red 17th Division. He participated in the anti-"encirclement and suppression" battles against Chen Jiahe and Zhongbao. On November 17, along with the Red 2 and Red 6 Armies, they were forced to start the Long March. In July 1936, the Red 2nd and 6th Red Armies arrived in Ganzi and met the headquarters of the Red Fourth Front. At this time, Chen Wenbin was transferred to the organization department of the Red 6 Army. In October, the Red 6th Army was reorganized in Huining, Gansu Province, and the original four divisions were reduced to 3 regiments, and Chen Wenbin served as the political commissar of the Red 51st Regiment.

After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in 1937, the Kuomintang and the Communists realized the second cooperation, the Red Army was reorganized into the Eighth Route Army, the 3 regiments of the 6th Red Army were divided into the 719th Regiment of the 359th Brigade of the 120th Division, and Chen Wenbin served as the commander of the 2nd Battalion of the Regiment. According to the strategic deployment of the central government, the 129th Division entered the northwestern region of Jin to carry out guerrilla warfare and create anti-Japanese base areas, and soon Chen Wenbin served as the political commissar of the 719 regiment. In March 1938, the 719th Regiment recaptured the county seat of Ningwu.

In the summer of 1938, the 359th Brigade drew a number of cadres from its subordinate units and formed a working group to carry out anti-Japanese rescue work in Anping, Hejian, Raoyang, Yingxian and other places. Chen Wenbin led a battalion of the 719th Regiment to garrison the Area of Dong'anyu in Ying County, propaganda and mobilization of the masses, helping to establish an anti-Japanese democratic regime, suppressing traitors, abolishing harsh taxes and miscellaneous taxes, reducing rents and interest rates, and giving preferential treatment to the families of anti-Japanese soldiers. In only half a year, Ying County developed 5 anti-Japanese guerrilla brigades.

On July 27 of the same year, Chen Wenbin and the regimental commander He Qingji were ordered to lead their troops into Jizhong and joined forces with the Jinnan Anti-Japanese Self-Defense Army led by Zhang Zhonghan, which was still under the 719th regimental structure of the 359 brigade. Zhang Zhonghan served as commander of the Jinnan Anti-Japanese Self-Defense Army, He Qingji as deputy commander, and Chen Wenbin as political commissar. On September 27, Major General Mizuhara, commander of the 8th Independent Mixed Brigade of the Japanese Army, led the 31st Independent Brigade and the Pseudo-Garrison, a total of more than 1,000 people, to attack Chenzhuang. The 129th Division ordered Zhang Zhonghan and Chen Wenbin to lead their troops and the 714th Regiment to monitor the Japanese forces in Quyang, Xingtang, and Lingshou north of Ciyu, and cooperate with the main force to annihilate Chen Zhuang's enemies. On the 28th, the regiment blocked the reinforcements of the enemy on the line of Baekdusan Mountain, forcing Chen Zhuang Rikou to flee south. In this battle, a total of 23 light and heavy machine guns and more than 500 rifles were captured.

According to the instructions of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on promoting the improvement of the situation and the struggle against friction, in mid-February 1940, the Ji'nan Military Region launched a campaign against Shi You's three armies. The Jinnan Anti-Japanese Self-Defense Army and seven regiments of the Jizhong Military Region were ordered to go to Ji'nan to participate in the battle against Shi You's three stubborn troops. In March, after the battle, Chen Wenbin was strafed by enemy aircraft while passing through Weijiazhuang in Xinhe County on his way back to Hebei, and unfortunately he was shot in the head and died heroically. He was 29 years old.
