According to the French media RMC news, Brazilian football star Romario was sent to a hospital in southern Rio de Janeiro and underwent gallbladder removal surgery.
Romario was hospitalized Thursday at copaca-star hospital in Copacabana, south of Rio de Janeiro, where the 55-year-old 1994 World Cup winner underwent emergency cholecystectomy.
Romario, who is now a senator in the state of Rio de Janeiro, said the surgery went smoothly and without complications. "Romario is under observation, no big deal, and should be able to leave in the next few days."
Romario, who was elected to the Senate of the State of Rio de Janeiro in October 2014, ran unsuccessfully for governor in 2018. Since retiring in 2009, Romario has been hospitalized several times and underwent lung and stomach surgery at the end of 2016.
