Zhao Yiman was born in 1905 in Yibin, Sichuan. After the outbreak of the May Fourth Movement in 1919, she began to contact Marxism with the help of Zheng Youzhi, a member of the Communist Party. In 1926, Zhao Yiman joined the Communist Party of China and later studied at the Wuhan branch of the Whampoa Military Academy and the Sun Yat-sen University in Moscow. In 1928, Zhao Yiman was ordered to return to China and engaged in secret work in Yichang, Shanghai and other places.
After the September 18 Incident in 1931, Zhao Yiman was sent to the northeast to engage in the anti-Japanese struggle, and she was a well-known female political commissar of the Northeast Anti-Japanese League, who led her troops to deal heavy blows to the Japanese army many times.
In November 1935, during the battle against the Japanese army, Zhao Yiman broke through the cover force and was wounded in the leg and captured. In order to get a confession, the Japanese army tortured Zhao Yiman, but she preferred to die. On August 2, 1936, Zhao Yiman bravely rebelled at the age of 31. In her suicide note to her son, she wrote: "My dearest child, the mother does not need a thousand words to educate you, but to educate you with practice." ”
