Before the "nine-in-one" election campaign at the end of this year, the DPP suffered another blow: Su Huanzhi, who had resigned from the party in March this year, "suddenly" announced that he would participate in the Tainan mayoral election.
According to Taiwan's "Central News Agency," Lianhe News Network, and other media reports on the island, Su Huanzhi, former governor of Tainan County, confirmed on June 29 that he decided to run for the next term of mayor of Tainan and will hold a press conference on July 2 to explain. At present, the mayor of Tainan has stated that the candidates are Huang Weizhe, Xu Zhongxin, Gao Sibo, Chen Zijing, Lin Yifeng, plus Su Huanzhi, and there will be a situation of "six rushes and one".
Su Huanzhi, who announced his withdrawal from the Democratic Progressive Party in March this year, said that on June 29, after meeting and discussing with more than 20 friends of the Tainan Jiali Aixiang Foundation, the decision to run for mayor of Tainan was made. He will hold a press conference at 10 a.m. on July 2 at the Guitian Hotel in Tainan City to fully explain the situation.
Su Huanzhi said that in the two years since the DPP came to power, it has been out of touch with local public opinion, and Tainan City has also lacked governance, including the housing tax, the land value tax has risen sharply, and the industrial dilemma caused by one case and one rest has been caused. It is doubtful whether DPP supporters will still support them, so they have a chance of winning when they return to their hometowns to run for election.
According to the China Times Electronic News, Su Huanzhi, 61, a lawyer, has served as the county magistrate of Tainan County for two terms (the former Tainan County and Tainan City were merged into new Tainan City in 2010 and upgraded to a "municipality directly under the central government") and a three-term "legislator", and has always been regarded as a "loner" without factions in the DPP. In March, Su Huanzhi abruptly announced his withdrawal from the 27-year-old Democratic Progressive Party, expressing disappointment with Tsai's administration. At that time, Su Huanzhi once said that he would run for mayor of Taipei City as a non-party member.
At present, in the Tainan mayoral election at the end of this year, the DPP's nominee candidate, Huang Weizhe, will face the diversion of Xu Zhongxin and Su Huanzhi, who are also in the Green Camp, plus gao Sibo, the KMT's nominee candidate, Chen Zijing, director of the Nanshi City Police Bureau, and Lin Yifeng, founder of the Wucai Group, and there will be a fierce situation of "six rushes and one grabs."
The DPP suffered one heavy blow after another before the "nine-in-one" election at the end of this year: on May 30, Annette Lu, the founding father and former deputy leader of the Taiwan region, announced her resignation from the party and declared that "different ways do not conspire against each other"; on June 20, Wu Fangming, deputy county magistrate of Chiayi County, also announced her withdrawal from the DPP and entered the election of chiayi county chief.
