The Canadian government has been studying the question of whether to ban the use of Huawei's 5G equipment like other members of the Five Eyes Alliance for three years, the first time Trudeau has commented on Huawei equipment since the release of Huawei Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou last week.

So far, Canada said it was awaiting reports from intelligence agencies to make a final decision, Reuters said.

Asked about Huawei's decision, Trudeau told reporters: "We will continue to weigh and study the different options, but there is no doubt that we will make an announcement in the coming weeks". Reuters said it was his first press conference since he was re-elected last week.

Trudeau claimed, "We've actually seen, if not all, that many Canadian telecommunications companies have started removing Huawei from their networks..."

Canada's two largest wireless suppliers partnered with Sweden's Ericsson and Finland's Nokia in June last year to build a 5G communications network.

Reuters believes Canada is unlikely to make a decision before a new government is formed. Trudeau said on the 28th that the new cabinet will be sworn in next month, but did not give a date.

On whether Canada will ban Huawei from participating in the construction of Canada's 5G network, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian once said that China's position on 5G technology is clear and consistent. The Chinese government has always encouraged Chinese enterprises to carry out foreign economic cooperation on the basis of abiding by international rules and local laws, and hopes that relevant countries can provide a fair, just and non-discriminatory environment for Chinese enterprises to operate locally.
