After their introduction, Harbin Fangzheng's selenium-rich rice, Gansu Tangchang's Chinese herbal medicine, Guangxi Guest's Eight Immortals Tianchi and other beautiful scenery, food and specialties with great hometown characteristics are presented in front of the public's eyes. This is the effect that "My Mother and I Learn Science" in 2021 wants to bring - by organizing primary and secondary school students and their mothers to read popular science content together, and recording it into a short video upload, combining popular science knowledge with local characteristics, actively promoting hometown customs and objects from a scientific perspective, and promoting the revitalization of beautiful villages.
The "My Mother and I Learn Science" activity was hosted by the Science Popularization Department of the China Association for Science and Technology and the Rural Professional and Technical Service Center of the China Association for Science and Technology, and hosted by Beijing Science and Technology Newspaper, with the theme focusing on "Beautiful Hometown My Endorsement". As of May 22, 2021, 223 schools from 63 counties in 22 provincial-level administrative regions across the country have participated, and students have uploaded 9,055 excellent video works with more than 100 million hits. The "My Mother and I Learn Science" campaign began in 2020, when it focused on the last batch of 52 poverty-stricken counties in the country to get rid of poverty, committed to getting rid of poverty. This year, it pays more attention to the characteristics of the hometown and is committed to excavating popular science themes with local characteristics.
In view of the characteristics of different hometowns, the activity has conducted special research on 79 science demonstration counties (cities, districts), including local animals, plants, food, buildings, scenic spots, science popularization venues, scientific celebrities, etc., and produced 1,000 popular science reading resource packs according to the research situation.
The collection of information on paper is certainly not as profound and grounded as the personal experience of the locals. In the specific implementation of the project, many teenagers have changed from "reading" science to "going out".
