It is distinguished from the chestnut-headed warbler in that it is chestnut on the side of the head, with inconspicuous white eye circles and no wing spots. The wings and tail are dark brown , with large coverts with narrow yellow-green tips that form inconspicuous wing spots on the wings , and the outer two pairs of tail feathers are white on the inside

During the breeding period, it mainly inhabits montane evergreen or deciduous broad-leaved forests at an altitude of 1000-3000 meters, especially in sparse broad-leaved forests and bamboo forests on both sides of streams with developed understory shrubs, and also inhabits mixed forests and coniferous forests. In winter, it is common to descend into secondary broad-leaved forests, sparse forests and shrublands at the lower and lower reaches of mountains, and sometimes to small jungle areas near farmland and settlements. In addition to being often individual or in pairs during breeding, it is often seen in small groups at other times, and sometimes it is seen with other willow warblers and small birds. It often forages among the branches and leaves of the understory bushes. Migration: Mainly resident birds, some winter migratory birds and traveling birds. Diet: Feeds mainly on insects. The main foods eaten are beetles, golden flower beetles, golden turtle shells, elephant trunk nails, leaf jumping cicadas, ants, crickets, bees and other insects and insect larvae. It also eats insect eggs and a small number of spiders.
