Marcus Williams played for the Zhejiang and Shanxi men's basketball teams, and formed a "pants combination" with foreign aid Charles Gaines during his time in the Shanxi men's basketball team, leading Shanxi to the semifinals and rewriting the history of the team. In the 2012-2013 season, Marcus was found to be smoking marijuana, and the Basketball Association announced that he was banned for six months. Coincidentally, Marcus had just led Shanxi to victory over Jilin in Changchun on the night of the investigation. In the 2013-2014 season, Marcus made a comeback, and could contribute 28.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game in the Shanxi men's basketball team, but the team was in a slump, Shanxi ranked third from the bottom of the league, missed the playoffs, and Marcus left the CBA league since then.
In the offseason of this season, Zhengzhou Universiade men's basketball owner Wang Xingjiang re-recruited Marcus to play in the NBL League, and the former people reunited. In this season's NBL league, Marcus averaged 39.1 points, 11.9 rebounds and 5 assists per game for the Zhengzhou Universiade.
