Recently, the first domestic polar region moon pool retraction and release system independently developed, designed and manufactured by the 704th Research Institute of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) has successfully completed the land test and successfully passed the inspection of China Classification Society (CCS). The system will be equipped with the mainland's first polar manned deep diving support mother ship "Exploration 3", which is under construction by Guangzhou Shipbuilding International Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Group, to help China's polar scientific research industry break the ice.
The polar zone moon pool collection and release system is the core equipment for large-scale scientific research ships and deep-sea engineering ships operating in extreme marine environments or polar ice floes, and is widely used in many fields such as polar scientific investigation, deep-sea oil and gas mineral resources development, submarine pipeline and cable construction and maintenance, search and rescue salvage, etc. The system is usually installed in the area of the moon pool in the amidship of the hull to ensure the safe operation of unmanned submersibles (ROVs), thermohaliness profilers (CTDs) or offshore equipment.
Due to the high technical difficulty of the system and the technical blockade of foreign countries, it has long relied on imports. After receiving the research and development task, the project team of the 704 Institute gave full play to its technical accumulation and R&D experience in the field of manned and unmanned submersible deployment and recovery, overcame difficulties, innovated and made breakthroughs, and built a moon pool double block retraction and release system scheme with independent intellectual property rights. After the project team's hard work and unremitting efforts day and night, it has finally overcome a series of core technologies such as multi-mode deployment and recovery of equipment, wave compensation, underwater grabbing and docking, low temperature resistance and anti-freezing, and land simulation testing of large-scale equipment, realizing the independent and controllable whole chain of equipment design, manufacturing, assembly, and testing, and providing strong technical support for the high-quality development of operation equipment in the mainland polar region.
It is understood that the 704 Institute has provided a scientific research crane, a 10,000-meter winch system, a manned submersible deployment and recovery system, a submersible transfer system, a broadside ROV retraction and release system and other sets of deep-sea scientific research operation support equipment for the "Exploration No. 3" scientific research ship, so as to better understand the polar regions, protect the polar regions, use the polar regions and the ocean, improve the overall technical level of the mainland's core scientific research support equipment, and accelerate the mainland's scientific and technological independence and controllability in the whole sea depth and sea area.
