A few days ago, BYD held a technical experience co-creation camp in Changzhou, Jiangsu, and Ling Heping, vice president of BYD Automotive Engineering Research Institute, said at the event: "Safety is the biggest luxury of electric vehicles, but it is really too difficult for electric vehicles to do a good job in safety." ”

Because electric vehicles need batteries, batteries need to store energy, and chemical reactions occur when charging or discharging. The active battery is not safe, the weak active battery is heavier, and the space occupied is relatively large, but the space of the car is limited after all, and the wheelbase of the large car is more than 3 meters. However, the mileage requirements of users range from 400 km, 500 km, 600 km, and 700 km, so when we took the car in the early days, the car was covered with batteries, and this arrangement seriously encroached on the space of the occupants.

This battery arrangement breaks the car's force transmission architecture. On the one hand, the structure should be strengthened to protect the battery, and on the other hand, the battery arrangement destroys the force transmission structure. The longer the battery life, the more persecution. Therefore, safety, space and battery life are an "impossible triangle", and it is really difficult to break this impossible triangle. In the final analysis, it is necessary to find a way to find a battery with moderate activity, moderate weight, and safety itself.

In the vigorous development of the new energy vehicle industry, the performance and choice of power battery, as its core component, directly affect the endurance, safety and cost-effectiveness of the vehicle. Among the many types of power batteries, ternary lithium batteries and lithium iron phosphate batteries are undoubtedly the two mainstream choices.

According to data released by the China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance, from January to July this year, the cumulative installed capacity of power batteries in mainland China was 244.9GWh, a year-on-year increase of 32.8%. Among them, the cumulative installed volume of ternary lithium batteries was 73.6GWh, accounting for 30.1% of the total installed volume, a year-on-year increase of 25.7%; The cumulative installed volume of lithium iron phosphate batteries was 171.1GWh, accounting for 69.9% of the total installed volume, a year-on-year increase of 36.3%.

Up to now, the loading volume of lithium iron phosphate batteries in the domestic market has surpassed ternary lithium batteries for three consecutive years, which shows that the safety and low cost advantages of lithium iron phosphate batteries are becoming more and more prominent.
