Different from urban and rural fires, forest fires are difficult to control and extinguish in a short period of time due to their rapid development, rapid diffusion and rapid spread. For forest firefighters, the task is as short as 1~2 days, as long as 10 days and half a month, to stay on the mountain, with the sky as the quilt, the ground as the bed, in the steepest place of the slope to light the fire, in the densest place of the forest to attack the dangerous section, in the steepest place of the mountain to extinguish the smoke.
They are like the Great Wall of Steel in the Green Barrier, always ready to fight the relentless flames and protect the "green waters and green mountains". In this special team, batches of heroic models have emerged. Xie Hai, captain of the Zhangzhou City Brigade of the Longyan City Detachment of the Fujian Provincial Forest Fire Brigade, is one of the representatives.

Joined in December 2007, from 18 to 35 years old, from wearing "olive green" to changing into "flame blue", coming in the wind, going in the rain, breaking through the sea of fire, fighting typhoons, every task, Xie Hai is standing at the forefront, he always sticks to the original intention, regards excellence as a habit, and interprets the spirit of "love to fight to win" with a solid, down-to-earth and pragmatic style.
The front-line leader who stepped on the stone to leave a mark
In September 2015, Xie Hai served as the acting instructor of the No. 5 Squadron of the Zhangzhou Forest Fire Brigade. Because the squadron was criticized by the higher authorities for problems in the early stage, the overall construction plummeted, morale was low, the drill training was listless, the work could not be pushed, the sick number, and the grinding foreign workers...... With a series of thorny problems in front of him, Xie Hai learned the "Ma Zhen spirit", pinpointed the crux of the constraints on the construction and development of the squadron, asked leaders at all levels and teammates around him for experience and methods, and started from the "typical" to lead the squadron to fight a "turnaround battle".
"When we came, we also had a clear understanding of the situation, including the advantages and disadvantages of each backbone and the situation of the fighters. "During his tenure as a squadron leader, he was able to develop a suitable training plan for the actual situation of the squadron, so that the training performance improved quickly. Once, the team organized a weight-bearing cross-country assessment, and the mountain roads were rugged, as an examiner, he didn't have to run, but when we were about to run, we found that he was also standing beside him. I was surprised and asked him why he was still carrying a backpack, and he said, "Only after experiencing everyone's hard work can I develop more scientific training measures or training methods suitable for everyone." In July 2018, Xie Hai was transferred to the position of squadron leader. As the oldest "team member", Xie Hai often said to his teammates, "The knife must be sharpened often, the top player must be practiced often, and if you want to maintain the edge of the 'sharp blade', you must often come out to compete!" "Like other young players, it is his original intention to dare to fight for the first place on the training ground. Under his influence, the squadron's comprehensive results were constantly refreshed, and the team's mental outlook was also greatly improved, and then it ranked first in the detachment's assessment of building a team according to the program and the assessment of winter training for five consecutive quarters.

As the first "National Forest City" in Fujian Province, Xiamen is evergreen all year round and has a beautiful environment, with a forest coverage rate of 43.62%. In recent years, Xiamen has combined mountains and forests with parks and scenic spots, and vigorously promoted the construction of leisure and entertainment facilities, attracting a large number of citizens and tourists, and the forest fire hazard has increased. In particular, after the completion and opening of the mountain and sea health trail, the pressure of forest fire prevention and extinguishing has increased sharply, coupled with the special climatic conditions, the frequent impact of coastal winds, and the pressure of forest fire prevention and extinguishing work has become prominent, and a professional team of forest fire prevention and extinguishing is urgently needed.
In order to fill the gap that there is no national forest firefighting team stationed in Xiamen, on August 1, 2020, 60 commanders and fighters of the fifth squadron of the Zhangzhou Forest Fire Brigade were stationed in Xiamen, which is also the only unit of the forest firefighting team stationed in the special economic zone.
According to Xie Hai, the period from September 15 to April 30 of the following year is the period of high incidence of forest fires in Xiamen. At this time, the team regularly overhauls the equipment every week to ensure that the rescue vehicles remain in good combat readiness. In normal times, they will also take the initiative to carry out fire prevention duties, especially during statutory holidays and high fire danger weather, they will go to the key scenic spots and forest areas in Xiamen to carry out fire prevention publicity, carry out patrols and fire prevention duties, etc., to enhance the awareness of forest fire prevention among tourists and local people. ”
Since its garrison in 2020, Xie Hai has led the team to cooperate with the local government to carry out the "Green Shield" Xiamen Forest Fire Fighting Emergency Comprehensive Drill for three consecutive years, helping the local government strengthen the forest fire prevention skills of the emergency rescue team. In 2023, Xiamen will launch a forest fire early warning and monitoring system, with the fifth squadron garrison detachment and six local professional teams as the core, supplemented by forest rangers and grassroots emergency response teams, covering cities, districts, towns (streets) and villages (residences), forming a four-level forest firefighting team, which further improves Xiamen's forest fire prevention capabilities.
Prevention is the last word, and good control is the real ability. "Since they moved in, the number of fires in Xiamen has been in the single digits. From January to the present this year, it is also a '0' fire, and before they settled in, there were still a lot of fires here. On June 16 this year, Qingyuan Mountain, Taiba Town, Shanghang County, Longyan City, Fujian Province, caused a landslide due to heavy rain, causing 6 people to lose contact. In 6 days and 5 nights, Xie Hai led the personnel to overcome unfavorable factors such as rainfall, high temperature, and dangerous terrain, and worked day and night to search and rescue all the missing people, and jointly searched and rescued all the missing people with the fire and rescue brigade, which was highly recognized by the local government and the masses.

So far, Xie Hai has grown step by step from a soldier to a captain, and has participated in more than 10 urgent, difficult, dangerous and heavy tasks such as fighting against Typhoon "Meranti", participated in hundreds of forest fire-fighting operations in Foshan, Guangdong, Sanming and Putian, Fujian, and rescued more than 100 trapped people.
From specializing in forest fire prevention and extinguishing to carrying out various comprehensive rescue tasks, Xie Hai took the backbone of the brigade to study professional theories, study and explore teaching methods such as rope rescue and water rescue, based on the existing conditions of the camp, find and open up training venues, and continuously improve the emergency rescue quality of firefighters and the comprehensive rescue ability of the brigade.
