Dell joins hands with "From the Mountains" to open a journey of exploration of science and technology and environmental protection for ethnic minority students
Recently, Dell Technologies (hereinafter referred to as "Dell") held the 2024 summer ethnic cultural exchange event in Shanghai, bringing a unique summer camp experience to more than 40 representatives of ethnic minority teachers and students of the "From the Mountains" public welfare project.
Dell volunteers not only used their professional knowledge to guide these ethnic minority students from economically underdeveloped areas to deeply experience the charm of science and technology through in-depth explanations and entertaining interactions, but also led them to visit environmental protection factories, allowing them to observe the "recycling journey" of waste electronics up close and deepen their understanding of green technology and environmental protection. This activity not only broadened the students' horizons, but also stimulated their enthusiasm for exploring new technologies and sowed the seeds of environmental awareness in their hearts.
The light of science and technology illuminates the road of dreams
As the wave of digitalization sweeps the world, technology is reshaping our world at an unprecedented rate. In order to let ethnic minority students in remote areas touch the pulse of science and technology and stimulate their imagination of the future, Dell has carefully prepared a series of interesting and interactive classes for these ethnic minority students with curiosity and dreams.
Through activities such as interactive programming learning and on-the-ground computer disassembly, Dell volunteers impart technology expertise to students and build a bridge to the world of technology. During the event, Dell volunteers acted as technology mentors, carefully demonstrated the functions of programming software and rich and flexible programming modules to the students, and led the students to experience programming with the theme of "Energy Heroes". Through the intuitive and easy-to-use graphical programming platform, students not only easily grasped the basic knowledge of clean energy such as solar, wind, and hydropower, but also deeply realized the infinite potential and hope of technology to help realize a green future in the process of building the code by themselves. With the patient guidance and motivation of Dell volunteers, the coding experience further ignited the students' interest and love for technology and their ambition to contribute to a sustainable future.

Subsequently, Dell volunteers led the students into the microcosm of the computer, analyzed the basic structure and working principle of the computer in detail, and guided them to participate in the disassembly process of the Dell computer. Under the guidance of volunteers, the students disassembled key components such as motherboards, CPUs, and memory modules. The shape, size and function of each component are shown and explained individually. Through close observation and hands-on operation, the students intuitively appreciated the mystery of the internal structure of the computer, and experienced the infinite charm of technology in practice. This unique summer camp provided a valuable opportunity for these ethnic minority students to explore and lead them to knock on the door of new knowledge and skills. During the event, the students not only gained practical experience in science and technology, but also stimulated innovative thinking, and also developed a stronger interest in programming and the wider field of information technology.

Green technology inspires the stars of the future
During the event, Dell highlighted the critical role of technology in driving sustainability and led the students on a tour of the eco-friendly factory. The volunteers explained the dangers of e-waste and the importance of recycling to the students through interesting animations, and then took the students to visit the working environment inside the factory and witness the "recycling journey" of used electronic products. With state-of-the-art dismantling technology and a series of carefully designed sorting, purifying and reprocessing processes, recycled Dell products are successfully transformed into individual plastics or electronic components that are waiting to be reused in an environmentally friendly and efficient way in the future. After the detailed explanations and on-site demonstrations by the volunteers, the students not only had an in-depth understanding of the principles and mechanisms of the environmental protection treatment process, but also experienced Dell's unremitting efforts in the field of sustainable development. In particular, Dell's practice in reducing e-waste and using recyclable or renewable materials left a visual and deep impression on the students.

Achieving sustainable development through scientific and technological innovation is a long-term and arduous task. Only through the relay struggle of generation after generation can mankind jointly usher in a green and prosperous future. Dell hopes that through this journey of integrating technology and environmental protection, the concepts of "green technology" and "sustainable development" will be deeply rooted in the hearts of students, and they will take root and grow into "towering trees".
"From the Mountains" is an ethnic culture education project initiated by Shanghai Yiyou Youth Service Center since 2012, which is committed to holding ethnic cultural talent classes or campus cultural festivals on campus to showcase ethnic cultural talents, and holding ethnic cultural exchange winter and summer camps and other activities with the participation of multi-ethnic teachers and students during the winter and summer vacations, so as to help Chinese ethnic minority children regain their national talents and build cultural self-confidence. This charity event marks the fourth year of the "From the Mountains" science and technology training program for ethnic minority students cooperated by Dell and Shanghai Yiyou Youth Service Center. This is not only an important practice to promote educational equity and promote the popularization of science and technology, but also a strong commitment to social responsibility of Dell.
