At present, the number of science and technology institutes in the country has reached 1,048, covering 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. At the end of July this year, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and the China Association for Science and Technology issued the "Notice on Supporting the Construction of a Number of Science and Technology Courtyards", which determined to support the construction of 780 science and technology courtyards in 68 units, promote scientific and technological forces to support agricultural production, and provide farmers with scientific and technological services with zero distance, zero threshold, zero time difference, and zero cost.
02 The birth of the Science and Technology Academy
(1) What is a science and technology courtyard?
A small farm yard, one or more graduate students, a group of science and technology farmers, some basic science and technology training and science and technology service facilities, science and technology experimental fields and technology demonstration parties constitute a "complete" science and technology courtyard.
The origin of the Science and Technology Courtyard can be traced back to 2009. Zhang Fusuo, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and then dean of the College of Resources and Environment of China Agricultural University, walked out of the campus with a team of teachers and students, moved the classroom and laboratory to the fields in Quzhou, Hebei Province, and ate, lived and worked with the farmers, solving the production practice problems with zero distance, zero threshold, zero time difference and zero cost.

The name of "Science and Technology Academy" was not given by the teachers and students of China Agricultural University, but by local farmers in Quzhou. In 2009, agricultural teachers and students who had just arrived in Quzhou lived in an idle farm yard in Baizhai Township to promote agricultural technology to farmers, and farmers came to them when they had questions. Slowly, the courtyard became the center of activity in the village, and the teachers and students were recognized by the farmers. Once, a farmer said, "If you bring science and technology to our farmyard, why don't you call it a science and technology courtyard." The name of "Science and Technology Courtyard" was born.

In the Science and Technology Academy, the first thing a graduate student who has just been admitted to the school is to enter the courtyard and go to the field with farmers, teachers, brothers and sisters. Zhang Fusuo introduced that some students who have just entered the school were worried that if they helped farmers too much, would they delay their own research, would they have no time to write their dissertations, and how would they graduate if they couldn't write their dissertations? Later, the student wrote an article about the model, research results, and service stories of the Science and Technology Academy, which was published in the journal Nature. There are also students who have published 10 papers and written a book during their master's degree. According to the data, from 2009 to 2021, the Science and Technology Academy has trained more than 680 graduate students, and 670 have won awards and honors issued by the state, localities, enterprises and schools, of which 20 have won national scholarships, 2 have won international awards, 7 have won the title of "Beijing Outstanding Graduates", and 5 have won the title of "May Fourth Youth Model" of the school.
