2024 Cadillac XT4 Review – More Upscale Configuration

wraparound

The XT4 looks better than ever, but requires an expensive upgrade to feel upscale.

merit

  • A new look
  • Rear seat amenities

shortcoming

  • It is advisable to use high-quality fuel
  • The steering wheel obscures some of the information
  • One engine

Thanks to borrowing design elements from its pricier, higher-priced counterparts, Cadillac's entry-level crossover looks more upscale than ever.

The driving experience of the 2024 Cadillac XT4 may not be exciting, but its reasonable pricing has a certain appeal. However, for it to feel like a true premium car, some upgrades are needed, which can hold potential owners back a bit.

Styling: 8/10

The XT4 gets a facelift for 2024 with a new grille and LED headlights, as well as updates to the front and rear ends, making it look more like the larger and more expensive XT6. Its interior also boasts a more tech-savvy and futuristic feel, thanks in large part to a redesigned dashboard that features the same 33-inch diagonal LED display as the all-electric Cadillac Lyriq.

Safety: 7/10

The XT4 is equipped with Forward Collision Warning (with pedestrian and cyclist detection), automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning and keep assist, and blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. However, adaptive cruise control is only available in the two most expensive models.

Features: 7/10

When it comes to amenities and comfort, the XT4 is a bit of a mixed bag. All models feature heated front and rear seats and a heated steering wheel, as well as interior ambient lighting, dual-zone automatic climate control and active noise cancellation. A power tailgate is also standard, and premium luxury and sport models also come with hands-free functionality.

In addition, the car comes with a large 33-inch screen, a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Still, some nice features, such as head-up displays, wireless charging, and camera-based mirrors, are only available as part of an expensive technology suite.

User-friendliness: 8/10

As an everyday driving tool, the XT4 delivers on the promise of a high-end experience. The focal point of the cockpit is an impressive 33-inch screen that displays a range of data. The only downside to this huge display is that the steering wheel can obscure some of the information.

Practicality: 8/10

The XT4 has a seating capacity of five people and decent cargo space – 637 litres behind the rear seats – on par with rival Volvo XC40 in the same price range, but slightly smaller than the Lincoln Corsair. While the rear seats can be a bit cramped for tall people, rear passengers have their own vents and USB ports, as well as heated seats. When fully equipped, the XT4 can tow up to 1,588 kg (3,500 lbs).

Comfort: 8/10

Aside from the cramped second-row seats, the XT4's passenger experience is comfortable, though not particularly luxurious. You'll feel bumps and unevenness in the road, especially with the optional 20-inch wheels and low-profile tires. However, cabin noise is kept to a minimum, thanks in part to standard features such as active noise cancellation, soundproof windshields and door glass.

Power: 7/10

All models come with the same turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine that delivers 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, but only with premium petrol. It's not enough to stimulate the senses, but it's enough for the combined demands of city driving and highways. All models are equipped with the same nine-speed automatic transmission, although the cheapest models are available with all-wheel drive, while the premium luxury and sports models are standard.

Driving feeling: 7/10

XT4 wasn't designed to be thrill-seeking. So, while it won't make your heart skip a beat, it performs well in everyday driving scenarios on city streets and highways. Although it's not particularly sporty, it won't let you down when traffic conditions require decisive maneuvering or reliable braking performance is required.

Fuel economy: 8/10

According to Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), the front-wheel drive XT4 has a combined fuel consumption of 9.1 l/100 km, while the all-wheel drive model has a slightly higher fuel consumption of 9.5 l/100 km. Our all-wheel drive test vehicle had an average fuel consumption of 10.0 l/100 km. It is advisable to use high-quality fuel, which will greatly reduce the pain when refueling.

Value: 7/10

The high-end market is flooded with entry-level models, and the XT4 faces stiff competition. As the most affordable crossover in the Cadillac lineup, it starts at $43,999 (including $2,300 shipping), but extras like leather are more expensive. This Premium Luxury test car sells for nearly $62,000 before taxes.

verdict

Thanks to a major makeover, the 2024 Cadillac XT4 now looks more like the rest of the Cadillac lineup. While the entry-level deluxe version is affordable, it's also somewhat rudimentary. The other two models – the premium luxury and the sporty – are more expensive, starting at $51,199 likewise. Apart from the styling differences, the main difference between the two is that the Sport version is equipped with adaptive sports suspension to improve its handling.
