The dust of Iran's presidential election has fallen, not because of a crisis, but because of a new opportunity for the Middle East

The second round of voting in Iran's presidential election ended smoothly, and the only reformist among the four candidates, former Iranian Health Minister Pezeshkian, won the final victory. The election result has been confirmed and blessed by Iran's Supreme Spiritual Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which means that Iran has a new president.

Just as Europeans immediately think of Hitler when they think of far-right parties, many people misunderstand Iran's reformers and think that they can be equated with pro-Americans.

In fact, since the outbreak of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, it has been dealing with the United States and the West for more than 40 years. In Iran's presidential election, not all hardliners have been elected, with former presidents Khatami and Rouhani both considered reformist representatives. Not only did the sky not fall on Iran when they came to power, but they also did not become a vassal of the United States.

This shows that no matter which candidate is elected president of Iran, Iran will firmly follow its own path. Therefore, the so-called reformists should be more accurately called pragmatists. The appointment of a new president means that the Iranian people are more stable in mentality, no longer extreme, more pragmatic in their thinking, and more long-term.

It must be emphasized that no matter how serious the current crisis in the Middle East is, sooner or later it will become a thing of the past. In the future, competition between countries will still rely on the competition of economic strength. The former Soviet-style reckless militarism will not last long.

Of course, Iran will not become another Turkey overnight, not only because the internal conditions do not allow it, after all, the hard-line Khamenei is the real supreme leader of Iran, but also the external environment does not allow it: if the new president dares to commit an act of betrayal, the current Shiite arc can tear him apart. What's more, the two big brothers behind Iran will not agree either.

We believe that the new president will certainly adopt a compromise approach, not only to carry forward the legacy of former President Raisi and to be a leading big brother in the struggle against Israel, but also to prepare in advance for Iran's economic development after the war. Only by doing so will military action not be extremely aggressive, and there will be room for engagement with neighboring countries, efforts will be made to balance relations with world powers, and a role and status commensurate with Iran's strength will be found as soon as possible.

To some extent, Pezeshkian's election as Iran's president should be a boon to Israel. At least in the future, Iran will vigorously promote the "two-state solution" and will no longer insist on erasing Israel from the map.

Of course, it will also depend on how the United States and Israel respond. If he continues to take a tough stance, or even occupy more territory in neighboring countries by force, it will also make the new Iranian president even tougher.

In addition, we note this detail from the background material that Pezeshkian's father is Azerbaijani, and his mother is Kurd. He has spoken both languages since he was a child. In this election, his background and communication skills have indeed won him the trust and support of many ethnic minorities in Iran.

This proves that Iran's new president is more representative and knows how to balance the interests of all parties.

To make an inappropriate analogy: an iron rod is easy to break no matter how hard it is, while a pair of chopsticks looks soft and unstrong on its own, but it is difficult to break when twisted together.
